Stupid effing college kids

Recommended Posts

I used to belong to a group here on campus so I had a lot of people on my facebook I normally wouldn't have and haven't gotten around to deleting them all.

Yesterday, one of them said something to the affect that poor people who don't have health care should just suck it up and deal with it - and if they live through it, it will only make them stronger, with a link to some article about health care reform (which I didn't read).

After I calmed down, I told him that I hoped he was never so poor that he couldn't afford healthcare, especially with a chronic disease.

His reply was that he would rather die.

Another person from the group piped up and claimed that this health care reform was 'the first step towards socialism' and we were all going down the toilet because of it.

Now, I didn't want to get into a political debate about health care reform, but the first comment just sticks in my craw. I know it shouldn't, but it does. Who the hell is this snot-nosed little brat to tell me that I need to suck it up and live with it because I can't afford health care? He'd better be damned glad there are programs out there to help me get my meds 'cause if I'd read that manic, well let's just say I might not have been so nice about it. ;)

I've taken all of those stupid kids off of my facebook. Jeez, that's what I get for hanging out with children - even it it was only for a semester.

O_O holy crap! God I hate people who really don't need health insurance when the rest of us are struggling with these companies on a daily business. I don't even know what I'm going to do once I graduate and lose my student insurance. Between my psychiatrist and meds I must pay close to $500 a month.

Its so hard for anyone to understand what its like when they themselves have never walked in our shoes.

If you can see a doc when ever you want... whether you really need to or not...

If you can get any medication you need

If you never have to worry about paying for an ER visit

If you never have to battle an illness AND battle paying for help.....

You don't ... no .... you CAN'T understand what its like to be stuck in that spot.

The person told you that they would rather die.... Well that just goes to show you how strong you are! (I like turning things into compliments)

They pretty much told you they wouldn't be strong enough to live with these hardships... and your dealing with them every day and not giving up!!!

His reply was that he would rather die.

Somehow I think if he were really in that situation that he wouldn't rather die.

I hope life experience helps them change their views. There are those who are ignorant of the daily troubles many people in the US have getting affordable health care. Others lack compassion. And some are truly callous. Sad.

Great way of putting it, DarkendHour. It celebrates strength. And I like that.

Probably spoiled rich kids still on momma's tit. Wait until they have a degree and still can't get a job or even with that degree they get a job but that job does not offer health insurance or the premiums and co-pays are so high they can't afford it.

I don't think these spoiled little snotty kids realize that even with a degree, finding and keeping a good job will be difficult for many years to come. And more and more companies want to get rid of the health insurance benefit altogether....mainly because it does cost them a lot but also out of pure greed...more goes in the Big Wig's pockets if they can cut out the health insurance.

What these kids and everyone else needs to realize is just because you have health insurance now, doesn't mean you always will. Most of us are far closer to being in the soup kitchen than in the country club and that goes for those with college degrees just as well.

Got it on the nose. He's also one of the most opinionated kids I've ever met, and an engineering major. He probably will get a job coming out of college, unfortunately because he's smart. I really don't wish my life on anyone. I just wish that he'd open his eyes and see what's around him.

Maybe life will teach him to be kinder, who knows? It still pisses me off when rich kids who have everything go spouting off about things they know nothing about.

Depends on what kind of engineer he's going to be. I used to work in an engineering office and yes, even that profession is going to shit. I was an associate engineer which means I did most of what the engineers did plus build the shit they wanted built, but I just didn't have two more years of college to get that B.A. degree.

But believe it or not a lot of engineering jobs are being outsourced. You wouldn't think they could figure out how to do it but instead of sending the work to say India for cheaper labor, they're just bringing India here for cheaper labor. At least that's what I saw when I worked in an engineering office. It was mostly electronics and mechanical engineers...oh yeah, and software engineers. And this was what they call a tier one supplier to the big three automakers. In other words, a pretty big company.

I equate this to being obnoxiously pro life when you've never had an unwanted pregnancy.

Personally, knowing these kids, I don't think they can walk a mile in my moccasins. I think they'd break in very short order.

If it's any consolation, those sitting highest on the apex of arrogance have the farthest to fall. It's easy being young and invincible. When they graduate, their perspectives will change. In the meantime, don't bother argue. You can't teach a puppy to roll over until it's learned to lie down.

That's a very good way to look at it. ;)

On the engineering thing:

That kid is so screwed. Indian engineers are just as good, but a middle-class income in India is $5000. American engineers with tons of experience and talent out the wazoo are driving rigs for a living.

If you never have to battle an illness AND battle paying for help.....

If you never have to move in with someone to pay for medical assistance,

If you never lose someone near and dear because they had no insurance,

If you never had to sell your home to pay medical bills,

Then, no, you don't understand.
