Swamp56
When a person with schizophrenia is said to be in remission what does that mean? When there are no significant positive symptoms (delusions, hallucinations, etc) for an extended period of time.
Swamp56
I thought that, to be declared in remission, it takes place after 2 years of no symptoms. I could be wrong though.
notfred
In MDD it is six months for full remission, DSM code 296.26. For bipolar full remission is 6 months, DSM code 296.06. There is not a DSM code for remission in the DSM 4 that I can find for schizophrenia . I would suspect that 6 months is pretty standard for remission in many illnesses. Full remission means no symptoms in the context of MI. nf

notfred
Do people in remission have to take medication? I'm probably coming off Abilify soon and I'm scared my psychotic symptoms will come back - does it count as remission if the meds caused a lack of hallucinations/delusions in the first place? Full remission means no symptoms not no meds. nf
