*j*
I've been taking Celexa for about six months and it's been working well for my depression/irritability. I'm happier and much easier to deal with, but unfortunately about a month ago I noticed that I'm losing my hair. It's not the usual male pattern baldness and it's not coming out in clumps, but it seems to just be thinning all over. So I've been tapering off, just because the Celexa seems to be the only explanation. My wife has taken Celexa too and has had hair loss problems, although she had attributed them to some other medical condition. Now she's wondering if Celexa may have been the culprit, since she took it for quite a while. Was wondering if anyone else has had this experience? I've taken Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, and Effexor in the past, but this is the first time I've encountered anything like this. Hate tapering off of a medication that seemed to be working, but I don't know that it would have been wise for me to continue long term either, since the drugs were not prescribed for me and I think I was just miserable due to my personal situation at the time. Really not a good idea to take drugs, especially psychiatric meds, without them being prescribed specifically for you. How did you do this, use your wife's? Anyhow, never heard of celexa doing this, are you on any other meds, perhaps a mood stabilizer? Epival/Depakote caused hair loss for me.
*j*
My wife and I don't have insurance and don't have a lot of money, although technically we don't qualify for any programs or anything like that [we have a lot of property on paper that we don't really own or get benefit from.] My wife has worked a lot in medical research in the past and did the homework for what drug she thought might work for her, so she got her father to ask for Celexa from his doctor. She gave him the symptoms to tell his physician. That was how she got her antidepressants for quite a while. Earlier this year I became severely depressed due to our living situation, and she began asking her father to give us Celexa again [he doesn't take it at all, he only gets it from his doctor for my wife's use.] That's the Reader's Digest condensed version. Anyway, yeah, bad idea, but it's the lowest cost option for us. I can actually see a doctor at the local Indian Health clinic, but they don't cover medications. I'm not taking any other medications per se, but a few supplements like fish oil, etc.
