GroovyGwen
Not to negate the disaster in the south, it is horrific and I am resisting the urge to drive down there and swim around to find people. But one main thing stopping me is the frickin' gas prices! MY GOD they went up $0.50 in a day!! I thought I was seeing wrong when my cheapo gas place where I filled up just a few days ago at $2.52 (the higest I have paid) has skyrocketed to $3.19 in a day! Such craziness. I know that NJ (where I am) is not the most expensive gas in the land by far, so I was wondering what you guys are paying. This means EVERYTHING is going to get more expensive. I have a friend in trucking and he is having a really hard time with business due in part to gas prices. Most products we buy have to get to the store somehow, by some vehicle that uses gas, so we can look forward to an increase in prices all around. Nothing like adding insult to injury. Literally! sarahnoid
A lot of oil producing rigs were damaged as well as gasoline producing refineries. Supply down, demand up. Prices shoot up. It's how it works. It sucks but it's business.
Greenyflower
$3.06 in California yesterday. Haven't checked today. <evil chuckle at all Escalade, Navigator, Expedition, and most especially Hummer owners>

wifezilla
Looks like I will be borrowing my 17 year old's car and parking my 91 GMC Jimmy. If I can only get passed the dragon themed seat covers and steering wheel cover and the smell of old gym shoes....
Batou
After I posted I got bumped from the forum, so hey let's fuck talking about gas prices. In these last several hours I have been horrified by the continuing news. I have cried and sobbed from all the images, the reports, and the utter chaos that is being allowed to continue in this country. Walk, don't drive. There are rotting corpses on the streets in NO being gnawed on by rats. Erika *edit* I am closing this thread. If people don't like it fuck you. Velvet Elvis
I think I'm just going to unplug my TV for a few days and let my head deal with all this by writing it all down. I'm going to try and force my brain to read Camus's The Plague again. When my brain worked well enough to but words together in a meaningful order on a regular basis I worked through the horror of world events by journaling. I'm going to try and get back to that. Batou
*edit* I am closing this thread. If people don't like it fuck you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Across the board apology, not for what I said, I felt deeply about the topic when I posted, but for using my Moderator abilities in such a way that did not allow any of you to respond. I wasn't telling anyone specifically to fuck off, I said that re: closing the thread. Unfair. Of me. To. Do. So. Erika
sun_zoom_spark
Approx. 10 refineries not operating or operating at partial capacity below New Orleans on the coast. Release of stockpiled supply SHOULD stem this problem. BTW- Chevron-Texaco released profit reports first two quarters of this year. Tens of BILLIONS of dollars. Oil exploration over the last 50 years has caused some of the subsidence problems in the marsh below New Orleans which in turn has caused some of the problems you now see in the city. I know, I work on subsidence problems in the marsh for a living. Blame it on America's love for the automobile.

Nature had its own protection system in place.... I think that is so interesting.... It's sad that it's been ruined so that it doesn't work as well as it should.... stipple
bad week,2 friends dead that i know of plus many missing. Now for the politics...........i will spare you all the rant.do not watch that t.v. it is ugly furnature.. for the facts ( depending on your views of humanity's worth) i listen to air america as some people might listen to fox news. it might be apt to not be political on this site because situationally it could trigger a huge net flame-o-rama- my politics are left of Mike Malloys in other words a very angry explosive older out of work guy. gas in L.A. = 3 bucks for ultra low test and lots of people running out to spend 325 K. on new turbo bentlys because that hummer is for the nanny to shlep around the designer children. Bad Week-bad 3 decades.
