Is this a safe weaning process

Recommended Posts

I know you're not really here to make this kind of determination but I wanted to know when I go see the psychiatrist I want to ween off the Ativan last. That I do know.

But what the case is, what's the safe way to ween off of Ativan?

I'm on 1mg (pill) four times daily.

The 1mg pills that I get are scored.

Would a safe taper be 0.5mg every X period of time (I need help with the X part)?

Or should it be done more slowly?

Please help because I don't want do have a psychiatrist who does it to fast and I "suffer" the consequences.

Thanks,

Andy...

Ask a psychiatrist.

You really seem to be wanting to fuck around with your meds yourself.

I'm not sure why you are looking for info on how to do this if you are planning on asking a psychiatrist AND you do not currently have one to discuss said changes with.

Psychiatrists generally make recommendations based on their experience with past clients. If this turns out not to work for you, you call up the doctor and say "HEY, so this is not working, I think we need to go slower."

That is, if it turns out dropping the med entirely makes sense.

I'm not sure it does.

You seem to want to be in constant flux.

Hey, to each their own, right?

What Luna said.

A safe weaning process is the one set out by your p-doc. If and when you discuss with them weaning off a med and are given the go-ahead, follow what they say. Otherwise, stay on your meds as prescribed.

OMFG Andy, this is like the 6th post from you about your medications in the last 24 hours. At a minimum.

You need to be focusing less on what meds to mess with, and more on telling your docs that you are having these obsessional urges again. The last time you got all fired up about your meds you ended up in the hospital. Remember that???

4 mg a day ?

Given your diagnoses, and the prescription drugs you take noone can tell !

If you were healthy and were not taking anything else it could probably be done in a few weeks.

As I've said in other topics/posts, I don't want to be on as many medicines, and I don't see Ativan having the same effect and I want to get off before the doctor starts suggesting upping the dose (because I don't want that).

Seriously, if it takes you 5 drugs to be stable or close, why wouldn't you take that over going on and off medication and ending up in the hospital every few months.

Thats why this board has a cocktails forum. Some people need a more complicated med regime to successfully stay out of the hospital, and to function in a semi-normal capacity.

Yes, it might not be what you want... but if you keep fucking with it your just going to get your ass committed and jarvised, which means forced to take medication or you get shots of it. Locked up. No freedom.

Psychiatrists and the mental health system only let you fuck up so many times before they do stuff about it. If you keep pushing to go off meds, or doing it yourself, you aren't going to like the consequences.

I have a friend that it took 10 years to realize this... he's been committed and jarvised like 7 times. You are young. Learn early on that sometimes you have to be on medication, and also on more than you'd like, to keep functioning.

I know you don't really like the hospital... but its proven true that you need meds.... so continually going off them is only going to end you up in the hospital again

Have to agree with everyone else here. Before thinking about any modifications with your meds, FIND a doctor and discuss your concerns with them. Neither you or anyone else on the forum is qualified to meddle with your medication cocktail.

Bottom line is though, for your situation: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
