Starchic
I saw this board mentioned on two different discussion boards in one day, seems like a pretty popular place. I have been discouraged with other boards, such as webmd and its medical board, where you are generally told to call the drug store if you ask about medications. I have either (diagnosis #1) GAD, or (dianosis#2) Panic disorder with agoraphobia, mild OCD, and mild social anxiety. Or (Dianosis#3 made by a complete quack in less than 20 minutes of a normal session no manic present etc.) Bipolar 2. I think the second diagnosis is correct. Regardless I have been struggling with my disorder for years, about 7 to be precise, although I have had anxiety all my life. I remember being a small child and worrying about dying, and being compulsive, such as saying things and then following it with the ever popular
Starchic
* My last post was too large I guess here is the rest~~~~ wants me to try Lexapro, I of course mentioned it to her first, but now she keeps telling me I should try it. I am so sososososo scared to take it, I have no idea why, I am just like that. I think about it and think about it, and the old view that well not doing the things I want to do keeps the panic away, why take it. But I also have periods of obsessive thinking, those times suck! This is because I am so conditioned by my anxiety
bella_mania
I was resistant to the whole Lexapro idea at first. I was scared. Eventually the anxiety got so out of control I felt I had to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. I got my life back. I was able to function rather than just go through the motions. I have 2 kids (6.5 & 4) and it wasn't easy being a mom and suffering from anxiety and mild depression. On the Lex I was the mom I used to be before I got really bad. Dare I say I was and still am the mom I want to be. Anyway, in addition to getting immediate benefits (within a few weeks), Lex helped get me to a place where the work I'm doing with my therapist has really been able to help me. I've been able to step back and out of my own "craziness" and see what life is like without it. I hope you have the same/similar experience. I can't say enough good things about Lex and how it helped me get my life back (if you don't count the weight gain...but that's not a good enough reason not to take a med especially if it'll help you). wiggles67
If you read my other posts I am a total med phob. I have been taking Lex for about a month. My pdoc gave me 10 mg tabs and I started by breaking them in quarters, now I am up to half for about a week. I have GAD, severe anxiety, and agoraphobia. I have 4 kids. I was so scared of side effects as I have had bad experiences in the past. I take it right before bed so I sleep through any side effects. I have also lost 10 pounds on it. Has it helped? hmmm. well I can venture out of the house for a bit but I still have pretty bad anxiety although better than before. I am hoping to up my dose to 3 quarters by next week. Maybe I will see an even bigger improvement. I too have a bit of a dysfunctional relationship. Sometimes I think if I just left my husband things would be better but I think that I have had problems since I was a kid although I can only remember snippets of my childhood. My anxiety would probably come back anyway. My grandma had it and I think it is genetic.

Greenyflower
Hi, Starchic, and welcome to the loony board for smart, curious people. It's fun here. Are you taking any meds currently other than the beta blocker? The SSRIs are helpful for anxiety, but not immediately and not always. I'm a bit skeptical of SSRIs for pure anxiety as opposed to depression and related anxiety, but that's only my opinion. Have you been to a good psychiatrist? Highly recommended. Especially if Paxil made you (hypo)manic. Even once. That's probably where the bipolar 2 diagnosis came from. And if that IS the case, you want to be very careful of the SSRIs without a mood stabilizer. Y'know, you think you ask a straight forward question and then it goes all complicated and conditional. That's life in crazyland. Check out the OCD and anxiety fora for more detailed information from people who share what ails you. Greeny
Starchic
Hi, Starchic, and welcome to the loony board for smart, curious people. It's fun here. No, I have not been to a good psychiatrist yet. Been to one who is like 70, retired from teaching, and decided to go into the medical field and was looking things up in a book while she was talking to me. Yeah really, scary stuff. I am waiting on a referral for another one, hopefully a bit better. I have anxiety and sometimes am depressed, but it is like the chicken and the egg theory you don
