Abilify=Akathisia AND the weakest antipsychotic?

Recommended Posts

has anyone noticed that A LOT of people are getting akathsia from abililfy. i heard this was a big problem with the older drugs but why a newish antipsychotic such as abilify is causing so much akathisia in people. i also heard from other people that abilify is the "weakest" antipsychotic and is absolute rubbish for schizophrenia but good for depression, bipolar, mania etc. can someone plz tell me their thoughts on these 2 issues(the akathisia and abilify being the weakest antipsychotic) thank you!!!

I personally never experienced any of those things when I was on Abilify. My results were fantastic. Within just a couple of days I was happy as a clam enjoying life and laughing again, it was fantastic to say the least. I did get a couple of minor side effects like the occasional stomach ache and some mild constipation but those things passed within a few weeks and life was as normal as it ever should have been.

I wasn't on a very therapeutic dose though at only 5 mgs and the cost was outrageous so I made the decision with my doctor to start taking something else. The withdrawal period hasn't actually been too bad. I feel a little restless and mopey but more tired than anything.

I would probably recommend it to anyone to give a shot. The important thing is that every person's body is different and just because some people experienced akathisia does not mean you will too.

Oh boy...Abilify was a short-lived adventure for me for just that reason: it gave me absolutely horrible akathesia...I literally couldn't keep still. It was a nightmare. I was only on it briefly, and I didn't notice any therapeutic effects at all.

Abilify was THE drug for me. No depression and my moods were few and far between. It just sucked that it made my eye sight really blurry to where driving was dangerous. Had to get off of it for that reason alone.

I can see how some people might see it as a weak AAP because it (for me at least) had zero sedation/ cognitive impairment.
