jen5276
Hey, I've been reading lots of good things about Lamictal and was wondering if anyone here could give me their experiences with it? Good bad and the ugly! Is it a good choice for anxiety and bipolar mood swings? Thanks in advance!
wifezilla
Seems to be working for my husband but he still takes zyprexa as well. He was on zyprexa alone, which really helped with his mania, but then depression hit. Doctor tried to give him zoloft along with the zyprexa, but it did not help. When lamictal started working, he tried doing lamictal alone, but then he started getting really bad anxiety attacks. At different times in the past he had tried lithium, depakote, seroquel, thorazine, and haldol with crappy results.

synthetic
Depends on what type of anxiety and mood swings you have. It is prescribed more for the depressed side of BP. I don't know much about its effect on anxiety, but I have been feeling less anxious lately. Don't know if that is the Lamictal or not. The best way to find out about others experiences is to peruse the threads on this forum and the bipolar forum. Lots of people on Lamictal and we BPs love to talk/complain about our selves. Edited to fix my horrible spelling.
ctracyw
I am currently on 50 mg lamactil 2x daily (as well as 500mg depakote and 500 mg dilantin) all this as a result of blocking out prior to running my work truck into a tree. No clear diagnosis and no history of any similar probs. I am ramping up on the lamactil to 200 mg and I really like the fact that I dont feel stoned( I have been on 1000 mg of depakote and couldnt function. Tried keppra also but started to get REALLY paranoid and hallucinated. I am really looking forward to just being on lamactil. The only negative that I see right now is I get KILLER headaches 3-4 times a week.

Guest shiggadams
lamictal made me unconsciously start singing in the shower, no kidding. no weight gain. actually improved my libido. improved my depression greatly relatively quickly, at 25 mg. interestingly enough made my add a little worse, i take adderal w/ it. do i like lamictal? no. i love it
myrkkyhammas
lamictal didn't do shit to my mixed states and mania, but it did knock the hell out of my depression.
seven
take a look at the "positive lamictal" thread for a slew of rave reviews. i didn't contribute (as if it weren't obvious how amazing lamictal is), but here's my
ncc1701
Besides ssri, Lamictal is my first med. I can say thet at 25mg daily, I slept 7 hours a night for the first time in 32 years (as long as I and my mom can remember). No nightmares for the first time in memory. At 50mg daily my family doc said I was "calmer, slowed down" and hubby agreed. Now leaning towards not getting a divorce. Now at 75 mg daily and keeping my fingers crossed. --ncc--
