Can invega increase anxiety and/or depression?

Recommended Posts

at this dose and after several weeks im noticing a decrease in my ideas of reference sx but along with that there's this depression and anxiety, does this have to do with the mechanism of action.? maybe this is typical when youv been takingthe medication and it starts to work? is the depression a sign that its time for a drop in dose? im tempted to just do this myself. my main concern is that il become suicidal which would piss off the insurance

In my experience, yes, Invega can cause depression. I had real problems with depression after starting Invega. As I wasn't on a mood stabilizer at the time, I went on Lamotrigine and that really helped (now that I'm off on Invega - prolactin problems - I've stayed on Lamotrigine even though I never needed it before on Seroquel, because it takes so long to titer up, I'd rather just continue).

I would though rather than dropping your dose talk to your p-doc first - if Invega works really well for you otherwise and changing your AP isn't something you're interested in, adding in a mood stabilizer could really help, and that way you can stay on your med/dosage.

i could do that, but on the other hand invega is more in likely really slowing down my thinking which is irritating when it comes to social and school situations. maybe a change in dose would help there? \O_o/ i believe 6 mg is a maintenanace dose anyway.

Well 3 - 12mg is the range of dose options available for Invega. I took Invega 6mg at bedtime but it did slow my thinking too and it did highly sedate me. But it did help prevent hallucinations and mood swings for me.

It is possible for Invega to cause anxiety and depression based on the neuro-hormones it affects.

Talk to a doctor. See if you could try a mood stabilizer so you could attempt to stay on your other medications.

You have options: Lithium, Depokote, Tegretol, Lamictal, Trileptal, Topamax, Neurontin

I wouldn't drop down in dosage either without discussing it with your p-doc.

Did you start to notice the depression only after moving up to 9mg? I experienced depression at both 3mg and 6mg, so I'm thinking that dropping down your dosage alone may not be enough to rid you of the depression. I think it's worth talking over with your p-doc and seeing what he recommends - a dosage change, addition of mood stabilizer, some sort of combo....

thanks guys, i think il stay where i'm at, you're right its too risky.

quick question, does trazadone act as an antidepressant at the low dose of 100 mg? i understand its used as a sleeping pill off label but its really an antidepressant but does it serve both functions at THAT dose? maybe the reason for my occasional depression is that i havent been taking the trazadone very consistently?
