Lithium and Dehydration-Overheating

So I have a company picnic to attend to and it's an all day affair outside in the blazing 100F heat. I'm a bit apprehensive about going since my Lithium has started to work well and I'm always concerned about becoming dehydrated to the point of going toxic. I plan to drink the hell out of water while I'm there and stay in the shade as much as possible, but is there anything else I can do to ensure I don't "fall out"? The last thing I need is an ER trip due to a company outing.

When I was on lithium, for workouts and shorter races (half-marathon and under), I used to take electrolyte pills or drink pedialyte (you can get in the infant section of the drug store). Pedialyte comes in fun fruit flavours! My dietitian bestie who worked in pediatrics suggested pedialyte - she said it was what they would use at the hospital to rehydrate unless IV fluids were required.

I've been on Li for years. Literally, years. No, wait, decades. I've never ever gotten toxic from being out in 100F weather. And trust me, I've seen a lot of 100F days. Stay well hydrated. Drink a sports drink if it will make you feel better (PowerAid Zero, G2, Propel). Put on plenty of sun screen. Stay in the shade. Wear a hat. Do the sensible things that you would always do when going out in 100F weather only drink more.

Thanks, I think I'm worrying way too much about it. Just need to exercise some common sense I suppose. And I never got out in 100F/Sunny weather. I'm more of an indoor/cool weather sort of person. I'll bring a cooler of PowerAid zero (it's the only zero calorie sports drink I can stand) in case they only have sugary drinks to consume.

Thanks for the reassurance guys, being new to Lithium still has me a bit spooked but I've never had this much stability (and I'm just getting started) so I don't want to mess it up.

I don't know what part of the country your come from, but in my neck of the woods (desert southwest), 100 degrees is considered mildly warm. Now, 115 is considered hot, lol. Of course, we don't have that oppressive humidity that makes 75 degrees feel as though you just dropped and did 100 push ups!

Like the others said, I've spent extended time in the extreme heat with lithium in my body without ill effects. The trick is a constant supply of cool (or better yet, cold) drinks. My personal choice is to have hubby go to the nearest 7-11 for a giant size diet pepsi, but that's just me! An ice cooler full of drinks kept nice and cold will work beautifully, and once you've drank a bit, you can put some of the ice in the drink to make it even colder.

I've never personally become overheated by lithium - it's created sort of a weird temperature gage in me. I'm the last one in the house to notice it's hot - or cold. I mainly just get thirstier when I get hot.
