Can you get...?

Recommended Posts

Can you get night terrors as an adult? My pdoc said today what I was describing sounded semi-like night terrors... but I thought you didn't remember night terrors?

I go through phases where I wake up in panic and fright like 5-15 minutes after I go to sleep, and it just keeps happening. Sometimes there are nightmares associated, sometimes its just the panic/fright.

You can get panic attacks in your sleep?

I was just asking because pdoc suggested it. I often have unexplained bruises that I obtain in my sleep, when I'm actually sleeping okay, and many nights its hard to keep a blanket on.

I do have RLS, but that wouldn't explain bruises on my arms...

I have panic attacks quite often during the night. I suddently startle awake and I'm having one. Sometimes, I've had dreams that I'm having a panic attack and then I wake up in absolute terror and sure enough, I'm having one.

I had similar nighttime experiences prior to going on prazosin.

I was having "nightmares", as evidenced by thrashing around, moaning, talking in my sleep, crying, etc... that I had no recollection of upon waking. Sometimes I would wake in the middle of night, in a panic, for no apparent reason.

I went on prazosin, and whatever these episodes were, went away.

Except I still move around more than is normal in my sleep, which hints at a sleep disorder.

I need to get a sleep test done- if your pdoc is willing to order one, count your lucky stars and get it done.
