Risperdal consta- indications.

For what other purposes other than for bipolar/schizophrenia/schizoaffective is Consta indicated? I am not dxed with any of those but am on fortnightly injections(25mgs). My current dx is personality disorder NOS. For 30 years i was diagnosed with sz and sz/aff before being given a PD dx.

What PDS would warrant the use of Consta? According to my pdoc i do experience 'psychotic symptoms'.

It depends what you mean by "indicated".

According to the FDA, Risperdal is officially approved for schizophrenia and BP1, but that doesn't cover everything it's actually used for.

If you are experiencing psychosis, it is probably being given for that. Antipsychotics are antipsychotics regardless of your official diagnosis.

Since your doctor says you have psychotic symptoms, Risperdal would be an appropriate medication.

Strictly speaking, Personality Disorders are not treated with medication since they are firmly fixed long term features. However, associated emotional or mood behaviors like extreme anger, rage, anxiety, and so forth can be appropriately treated with Risperdal as well.

It helps to some degree with paranoia/emotional sensitivity/and weird thoughts but doesn't

do much for lack of motivation/lack of drive.
