rowen
OK, ya'lls that know me are going to kill me. I'm still stuck on my weight issue. I know some people take Zyprexa Zydis, let it sit in their mouths for a bit, and then spit in order to avoid some of the weight gain. Would this work with Abilify Discmelt? netsavy006
Personally, I wouldn't know the answer to that but that would change the dose you were taking from 7.5 to 10mg minimum as there is no 7.5mg Abilify Discmelt that I know of. Just remember to take that into account.
sorrel
I thought the reason that the Zyprexa Zydis caused less weight gain had to do with bypassing the serotonin receptors in the stomach. Not because some of it was getting spit out (which would just seem equivalent to taking a lower dose.)
rowen
I thought it had something to do with bypassing histamine receptors. I could be wrong, though.
sorrel
Yeah, could be, makes more sense. I guess my point was that I didn't think the idea was to spit out part of it.
SashaSue
I don't think anyone really knows why the zydis causes less weight gain. In the same way that no one really knows why zyprexa causes so much weight gain in the first place.
rowen
In the same way that no one really knows why zyprexa causes so much weight gain in the first place. Histamine receptors, among a lot of things, regulate metabolism. Things that antagonize the histamine receptors responsible for regulating metabolism end up slowing metabolism down. This is actually true for antihistamines - you will have trouble with weight if you take a decent amount of Benadryl every day for an extended period of time. Why Zydis doesn't seem to affect this as much is a mystery, though. Weight is less of an issue even if it's swallowed. Hm. In short, I'm desperate. Maybe I'll try the Discmelt for shits and giggles. Insurance covers it, so why the hell not.
netsavy006
I've taken the Abilify Diskmelt 15mg tablets in the past, and let me just tell you they take forever to disolve. One time it was in the process of desolving and I accidentally spit it out when I was talking to mom while it was still in my mouth. Plus the taste isn't exactly pleasant. netsavy006
I don't know when it happened but they don't really promote this version of the Abilify like they do the pills. I was taking Abilify probably around two to 3 years ago so maybe they started making them then.
