Guest hammock.
So I've been prescribed sq titrating up to 400 a day. I've been on prozac 60/day for a long time now. It seems weird to give me a drug that makes more serotonin and ALSO one that blocks it? Or am I just confused ? The PI sheets don't make much sense to me and I don't see my doctor for two more weeks. What is your diagnosis? There is not much information because you are a guest. Were you depressed and placed on Prozac? Then what symptoms made your doctor start you on Seroquel? I could help you more if I understood more about your situation.

My diagnosis now is schizo affective. ok, well this might help you a lot! Paranoia is no fun. Have you started the Seroquel? It can make you sleepy. My thought which prompted asking you for more information was wondering if you were show signs of bipolar mania/psychosis. And if yes I was going to suggest you talk with your pdoc about a mood stabilizer. But if you don't have mood swings than that explains it. I take Seroquel myself for hypomania and odd thoughts, racing thoughts, etc. I am not on a very high dose. But it is very effective for me. I was resistant to this med for some months, and kept trying it and finally realized the benefits. Nice of my doctor to be encouraging and supportive. tryp
Hi, I have been on Seroquel with an SSRI for about a year now, and I have found it very effective. It does seem weird on the surface to be on a drug that blocks serotonin and one that increases it, but there's actually more to it than that. For one thing, Seroquel does more than just work on serotonin. It also works on dopamine, which should help with your paranoia and odd thoughts. Also, the thing with serotonin is that there are multiple types of serotonin receptors in your brain and they do different things. Blocking some of them while stimulating others is part of what makes Seroquel + SSRI a very effective combination for depression. For example, Seroquel blocks the 5HT2C serotonin receptor, and the job of this receptor is actually to prevent the release of dopamine and norepinephrine. So blocking that receptor generally makes you feel less anxious and depressed. Anyway, neurotransmitters are pretty complicated, so just because you have one drug that is blocking and one drug that is increasing, doesn't necessarily mean they will do opposite things, or cancel each other out. I guess it's sort of like...if all the houses on my street have white doors, and I hire one painter to paint every third door blue and another painter to paint every second door green, at the end I'm going to end up with some white doors, some blue doors, some green doors, and some doors that have been painted both colors. And if I did my math right, they might all look nice together, but the analogy sort of breaks down at that point I hope Seroquel is good for you - it's been great for me.
