Lexapro + Wellbutrin + Lamictal

Recommended Posts

This a first for me, never chatted, posted, etc on any websites, but feeling a little crazy. I was on Effexor XR for 7 yrs and it suddenly quit working 6 months ago. Started seeing pyschiatrist and she discontinued the Effexor (really felt like I was on the crazy train then). Slowly added Lexapro, that didn't work, so she added Wellburtin, sill not effective, so now I'm taking Lamictal too. Current doses are 20 mg Lexapro, 150 mg Wellbutrin, and eventually will be 100 mg Lamictal (on titration kit now, week two - 25 mg). So completely frustrated, is the Lamictal going to take 5 weeks to work? Also confused b/c everything I've read says Lamictal is primarily for bipolar disorder and I was diagnosed with MDD and a little GAD. Used to be a runner, have now gained 30 pounds (HUNGRY all of the time) and resigned from job today. SOS!

Welcome from a fat runner/triathlete a good 30-40lbs from my former self.

IIRC, I started to see an effect from Lamictal when I hit around 100mg. It can be frustratingly slow to get there though.

Lamictal as far as I've heard acts well on depression compared to many of the other mood stabilizers. I've heard of it being prescribed alone for depression.

Thanks, I'm a little less than three weeks away from the 100 mg, and ready for it.

Walked through a sporting goods store today, and although totally depressed that I wouldn't fit my normal size, told myself if I can get back to running then I'll treat myself with new running clothes. Dr says it's beneficial anyway because of the endorphins (which I already knew, since I feel especially shitty not running).

Going to try running tomorrow, hopeful I can work up the motivation. The hardest part is wanting to run as far as I did before and now knowing I'll have to settle for a couple of miles. I started decreasing the frequency of my workouts in January and completely quit by April. How long has it been for you?

  • 3 weeks later...

Just thought I'd say that I'm on this combo right now.

Like you I was on Effexor for a few years and it stopped working and I was on a very high dosage so we really couldn't up it (I was at 375mg) so the doc put me on Lexapro and Welbutrin (20mg and 150mgs) I was on that combo for about 7 years and it worked very well for me. I went off them for a while, turned into a "hot mess" and I am not back on them as well as Lamictal. I too was confused by the suggestion of Lamictal since I was always told I was NOT bipolar but the doc I'm seeing now thinks I'd benefit from a mood stabilizer.

For the past 2 months I've been on 10mgs of Lexapro, 150mgs of Welburtin and 50mgs of Lamictal and I'm doing well. (trying to keep my dosages as low as possible because I'd like to get pregnant at some point)

I have put on a few lbs due to over eating which I think could be caused by the meds but then again I've always had a big appetite. My biggest issue is finding the energy to exercise to combat this... I haven't found that yet....

I realize you posted this a while ago... curious, how is it going for you now?
