ltlangl2
HOLY SHIT! I took 5mg at 7 ish this morning my 8:30 I was freaking out. I was manic I couldn't sit couldn't stand had to throw up shaking headache. Never again. Popped 1/2 a xanax to calm me down and I am now wishing it was nap time for my son. I have never felt so screwed up in my entire life. Felt like I just did about six lines. And now my neck is aching!! Go figure!!! I was really freaking out almost called 911 but called the doc she is going to start me on cymbalta. I really don't know what else to do. I don't know how long I can possibly do the drug merry-go-round. This sucks!!! Robin

I can't believe that he or she is just going to put you on a different type of antidepressant monotherapy.
ltlangl2
OK, this is probably a really stupid question, as I really don't know a whole lot about the meds except what I read. But what is the difference and what meds do I need to research. I know it dumb but I just know what I have taken and the crappy things they have done for me. But what should I be looking at. The doc wants me to start cymbalta on Monday.
ConfusedCat
In another post you said effexor was "scarey coming off", but not how well you did with that one. Obviously the ssri's arent working for you. If in fact efx did work well for awhile without major side effects then it is possible cymbalta will be ok. If you also had a bad reaction to efx, I am also surprised your Doc is even thinking of trying another one without the possibilty of looking into a mood stabilzer first. ltlangl2
Effexor was fine I had to stop cold turkey cuz my insurance ran out and I didn't have enough money to buy the prescription. I had the discontinuation that was scary!!! Wont stop cold turkey this time!! Robin
DysfunctionJunction
When I start any new medication I wait until my son goes to bed just in case I don't feel well after I take it. There is nothing worse than being sick and having to fake it and take care of kids. Effexor made me feel like Lexapro made you feel. Lexapro worked well for me though. Glen
The risk of antidepressants in bipolar patients is that it can induce mania. This is a common occurrence. Also, there is some risk that antidepressants could worsen the course of bipolar treatment. Bipolar patients on antidepressants may have more episodes of depression or mania and rapid cycling episodes. The antidepressants may act as mood destabilizers, counteracting the benefits of the mood stabilizers. In my opinion, and I think most of the scientific literature supports this view, it is important to not use the antidepressant chronically in everyone in long-term treatment. The important point is to make sure bipolar patients receive an effective mood stabilizer, since some clinicians prescribe not enough or no mood stabilizers. Antidepressants should be used, but cautiously. http://www.familyaware.org/expertprofiles/drghaemi.asp
