Moody
My pdoc started me on seroquel. I am pretty anxious and agitated, and I got akathesia from Abilify and Risperdal, so she thought it might be a good choice for me. She told me to start with 1/2 of a 25mg pill, in case it knocked me out at first. I usually get good results from very low doses of medication (I only needed 1 1/2 mg of abilify and .25 of risperdal) so she wanted to make sure I didnt get hit hard with side effects. Well, I took the 1/2 pill, and nothing happened. So last night I took 25mg, and again, nothing. I feel like I took a sugar pill. I actually had more trouble sleeping than I usually do, because my doctor told me to stop taking my melatonin, and today I am just as agitated as I was before. I actually checked the pills to make sure the pharmacist didnt give me the wrong thing. My pdoc gave me permission to go up to 50mg before I see her next, so maybe I will try that tonight. Has anyone not had sedation with Seroquel? Is this a sign that it isnt going to work for me? I am really bummed, I could seriously use some sedation!!! themadhatter
Seroquel doesn't make me sleepy at all and it kind of frustrates my pdoc. I have talked to people that are only on 25 mg and are knocked out and they were amazed that I am rock steady awake at the 700 I take. Now given 300 of that is the xr in the am but I take 400 mg traditional at night and it does nothing as far as tiredness.
Moody
Well that sucks... does it help you with mood stabilization though? I guess I can deal with the no sedation if it stabilizes my mood. I was afraid that the no sleep meant that it wasnt going to do anything, or maybe I would get akathesia again...
themadhatter
For me the seroquel has been a god send. It is the best mood stabilizer I have been on, so much so that I am eventually going to be titrated off the low dose of lamictal I am on. My pdoc is just not in a rush to eliminate it. The only real side effects I get from the seroquel is sometimes I crave carbs real bad but mostly it kills my apetite which is rare I have heard. Otherwise I love me some seroquel. Moody
That is great to hear. I know I have only been taking the Seroquel for 2 days, but interestingly my appetite also seems to be less rather than greater like I was expecting. Other than that, I dont notice any side effects. I hope I get the same awesome results you do as far as mood goes. Thanks for responding, I feel much more hopeful now! I think I will go ahead and move up to 50mg and see how it goes. withing
After the first night - 50mgs... Seroquel hardly ever made me sleepy, but it does let me sleep the whole night without waking. Try eating something when you take it, like a cookie or something. That tends to kick in the "sleep effect" for some reason. However, like mgower, Seroquel is a god send to me. Without it and Topamax, I would be in a very bad place indeed.
Moody
Did it make you guys feel agitated at first? As my dose gets higher I am feeling more agitated instead of less. That worries me. Will that go away after I take it longer? I might call my pdoc and see what she thinks...
netsavy006
I think that might be a call to call the pdoc. I took one 100mg Seroquel in the ER and it didn't help me to sleep or calm me down and that was in combo with 2mg of Ativan IV. I was still agitated and Mom had to leave because I was so irritable. Wishing you better luck, Andy.

Evey
Seroquel sedates me. I know someone though that can take 300 mg in the morning and it does not sedate her one bit. So interesting how meds effect everyone differently Seroquel is a great med for a lot of things (at least in my experience)- helps my insomnia, helps my anxiety and depression. Guest
Initially it sedated me, now it has barely any effect. But I'm on a pretty tiny dose still.
