rowen
1. How many mg do you take? 200 mg 2. Why are you on it? Anti-depressant effect/mood stabilizer 3. What do you think it helps best? Depression without aggravating hypo/mania (once you hit at least 100 mg - before then, you may be aggravating hypo/mania) 4. What are you diagnosed with? Not sure. Was BP NOS, might be BP II now. Just got a new pdoc. He doesn't have me figured out yet. 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? I have easy bruising, but I don't think it's from Lamictal - it started after Abilify. Teeth are OK - I've had two cavities, which may or may not be related to meds. Brush, floss, and use Biotene. You should be OK.

Mindful Momma
1. How many mg do you take? 400mg total - 200mg XR in the am and another 200mg XR in the pm 2. Why are you on it? Epilepsy & Mood stabilizer for bipolar 3. What do you think it helps best? Mania & seizure control 4. What are you diagnosed with? Epilepsy & Bipolar 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? I bruise easy anyways and I couldn't tell you if it's gotten worse/better. I've little to no side effects from this medication at least not that I know of. No significant weight gain, no teeth problems, no rashes, no acne break-outs, etc. It's a pretty tolerable drug in my opinion.

Mindful Momma
I didn't even know there was an XR formula Neither did I but my Neuro said that I needed a time release version taken every 12 hours since I was having seizures less than 12 hours a part. Since the increase to 400mg I haven't had one. So that's a plus.

crtclms
Hi everyone, Was wondering this about Lamictal if you are on it. Thank you everyone 1. How many mg do you take? 225mg/day 2. Why are you on it? Bipolar illness 3. What do you think it helps best? For me, mixed episodes. 4. What are you diagnosed with? Bipolar NOS: I used to be considered BPII, because I was mostly depressed, but lately, have just been having hypomanias and mixed episodes. 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? -I have always bruised really easily, so I don't know. =I am going to the dentist for the first time since I have been on this in a few days, so we'll see. I have been on anti-epileptics since 1991 (?), and they all are supposed to cause teeth issues. Other than bleeding gums (NOT gum disease), my teeth have been fine, but I know other people on the boards have teeth issues. =I have had *slight* rashes on my shins and elbows. SLIGHT. Not THE rash, and if you saw a picture of THE rash, you would know I just have dry patchy rash. It isn't constant. My husband has a pretty persistent rash on him shin, but he is on a dose for epilepsy, which is much higher. Mine are not visible. His is, but you wouldn't notice it if you weren't looking for it. withdelight
1. How many mg do you take? 350mg every morning 2. Why are you on it? Mood stabilization 3. What do you think it helps best? Depression 4. What are you diagnosed with? Bipolar type II 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? Nope, neither. I had headaches at the beginning and I'm a little bit clumsier than I used to be, but that's it. And those might not even be due to the lamictal, since i'm on a slew of other meds as well. It's been my favorite so far, though, of anything I've taken. Been on it for almost 3 years.
domovoi
1. How many mg do you take? 200 2. Why are you on it? bipolar depression 3. What do you think it helps best? horrible, long, suicidal, vicious BP depressions. for me lamictal wasn't enough by itself, so adjunct seroquel 4. What are you diagnosed with? BP I 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? No. Divided dose (100+100).

Catnapper
Was wondering this about Lamictal if you are on it. 1. How many mg do you take? 200mg in p.m. Pdoc started me on am dosing, but it makes me sleepy so now I take it at bedtime. The pdoc says about 20% of his patients find it sedating, everyone else takes it in the am. 2. Why are you on it? Adjunct antidepressant to Wellbutrin and hopefully mood stabilization. The pdoc has changed my dx from MDD to BP II even though I've never been hypomanic. However, he said I'm clearly cycling through episodes of depression and the Lamictal will break the cycle, or at least extend the remission time between depressions. I've been on it for a year and a half and feel the best I have in years, no depression symptoms most of the time, which I consider normal mood, since everyone gets a bit down now and again. 3. What do you think it helps best? Depression and mood stability. 4. What are you diagnosed with? BP II, previously MDD. 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? No, the only side effect I had was headaches for a few days every time I went up on my dose while reaching 200mg. But they quit after a few days so it's definitely worth hanging in there. I have really sensitive skin and I have never had any rash from Lamictal.
all_that_glitters
1. How many mg do you take? 50 right now, divided dose. I'm titrating up to 100. 2. Why are you on it? Bipolar II. Newly diagnosed, but the onset was a few years ago. 3. What do you think it helps best? I'm not sure yet, since I just started. I would say it seems to be lifting the depression I was in, but I always swing toward hypomania around this time of year so it's too early to say. I'm hoping it will prevent my typical autumn hypomania. Mine is only fun for a couple weeks, then it turns really bad. 4. What are you diagnosed with? Bipolar II and a bunch of old diagnoses from when I was a teenager that may or may not be accurate. 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? Yes! I do seem to be bruising easily all of a sudden. My teeth are fine. I've also had insomnia, irritability, anxiety, dizziness, and a rash. I dealt with the rash correctly, it went away, and I was able to resume Lamictal.
shadowswa11ow
1. How many mg do you take? 200mg 2. Why are you on it? Mood stabilization/anti-depressant 3. What do you think it helps best? Definitely mood stabilization 4. What are you diagnosed with? BP II 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? So *that's* why I have a constant collection of bruises on my legs. I've had no problems with my teeth, or constant headaches. I did have them for about two weeks after I upped each dose. I take a single dose in the AM. Originally I was taking it before bed, but it energized me.
TheActress
1. How many mg do you take? Currently I'm at 300mg, but doc is thinking about taking it up to 400mg. 2. Why are you on it? Bipolar and Borderline PD(off label for Borderline, but many promising studies) 3. What do you think it helps best? Specifically? Overall mood stabilization. Getting rid of most of the depression (still have 1 or 2 lingering depressive symptoms and some breakthru depression). General well being. What do I think it helps best? My life. I love this drug. I will tell everyone in the world I love this drug. I'd build a mini-shrine in my house to this drug. YMMV as with any prescription medication, but for me... I don't know what I'd do without my Lamictal. 4. What are you diagnosed with? See my signature. 5. Have you had this side effects: easy bruising on legs and/or major problems with your teeth? I've always had some bruising issues, nothing worse since I've been on Lamictal. No "major" problems with my teeth, but when I increase dosage I get a lot of teeth clenching. 6. Single or divided dose? AM or PM? I take a single dose between 12pm and 3pm. It just works best for me this way. Dunno why, but there ya go. 0detta
1) Currently at 100 mg. Also do 50 to 100 mg of trazadone. 2) Mood stabilizer. 3) Moved me out of depression. Was hypomanic at lower doses. Just recently went up to 100mg, and waiting to see if I settle down. 4) BP II. 5) I've always bruised easily; so easily, half the time I don't even remember the initial bump that caused the bruise. Haven't been on it long enough to notice any teeth changes, except that they may be a tiny bit more sensitive. I have noticed that I sometimes have isolated muscle aches and dry mouth. I'm also retaining water so I look fatter even though I have very little apetite and I'm eating less (which is a good thing - I was self-medicating with food before dx.). I've been having too much energy in the evenings to want to fall asleep (hence the trazadone). Not sure if this is due to the drug itself, or to the hypo it induced at low doses. 6) One AM dose of the lamictal. The trazadone is taken at bedtime. How many mg do you take? 100, divided into 2 doses 2. Why are you on it? depression, anxiety (yet outwardly pulled together) 3.
