Ziprasidone and mania

I've recently started ziprasidone/Geodon/Zeldox maybe around a week or so ago [sorry I am bad with time] and I noted that one of the potential side effects was activation into mania in some people.

I'm slightly concerned because since being on ziprasidone, I've been generally feeling more energetic and happier, and it has lifted my mood. My sleep seems okay but I do get some bouts of insomnia here and there. However, it's not an extended bout so there are nights when I can sleep fine. I'm also a lot more talkative since I've been on ziprasidone.

Has this happened to anyone else and is this a case of ziprasidone lifting me out of a depressive state, or might this be a very early sign of some form of activated mania? I'm currently on 60mg, which I don't think is a very high dose.

You're not on a high dose. Are you taking it divided? That is normal with Ziprasidone.

The second time I was on it it made Seroquel look like an upper, so.....I was way to sedated for any sort of elevation.

But you've been depressed for awhile, right? Hopefully it's just the Ziprasidone lifting you out of depression.

BUT

I'd keep monitoring things and see how you are. Nothing that's a huge red flag but if those things become stronger than I'd worry.

I'm taking 60mg all at once. Thanks for the reply, it's reassured me about my experiences.

Guess I'm still coming to grips with ziprasidone because it sedated me last night! I'll continue to monitor; I have been generally liking this drug so far.

Thanks. Looks like I might just be experiencing the AD effects of the big Z after all because I don't feel manic. Looking back, I did have a nasty depressive trough for a few months this year.

Or this just might be the most boring mania ever, because it's lights out by 9pm here ;)
