new to prozac

Recommended Posts

pdoc just started me on Prozac-- the only thing she does that I don't like is that she won't tell me about how long it might take for something to work. She did that with lamictal and about 6 weeks in told me how long it might take-- would have NEVER started if I had known it would take that long. I am not against meds if we can find the right combo to get a handle on this shit so she now knows I am willing to try, but I guess this time I forgot to ask. (quite a long appt spent debating various different meds-- zoloft v. prozac, add abilify, trazadone instead of seroquel, maybe lithium-- until she remember my deathly fear of needles). Before writing the scrip she did warn of the possibility of throwing me hypo/manic but she said she thought I would be fine but to watch out for warning signs, Again forgot to ask what hte warning signs might be-- another reason we are trying to change things up is cuz I CAN'T REMEMBER SHIT!!

It's great that she doesn't just throw the whole kitchen sink in and see what works-- not to mention I have her cell phone to call if thinks get strange or too rough but these aren't emergency type things and could wait until the next appt on the 28th but thought I would see what y'all have to say!

long rambling story short anyone know the average time before I might start seeing effects and what things to look for if I am trending hypo/manic?

thanks for the insight guys! like I said... love the doc... hate that she will hold out on time frames with me.... but I do get her reasoning.... I guess I will just keep track of all that's going on to see if it really helps since it might be a while before I can see a real vast improvement... and I guess I will keep an eye out for those manic/hypomanic signs (although I can't say I would mind them at this point!)

  • 2 weeks later...

and now we have a new med..... apparently hypomania while enjoyable is ill-advised.... I was fine with it. now added to the mix is abilify and if I remember correctly it was to augment the lamictal.

current cocktail now.... 200 lamictal, 10 prozac, 2 abilify all in the am, 50 of seroquel at night and xanax as needed. the most recent change was that we took away 50 seroquel XR and added the abilify...

I feel like I have been hit by a freaking MACK truck, and then backed back over again.

HELP.... is this normal, will it go away, how long should I wait... I CAN NOT function as a school teacher like this.... would taking it at night be better (she told me I should be fine taking it in the am)

advice please....
