Guest metamorphosis
After trying many ssris, snris and using benzos to no avail my p.doc will give a maoi a shot. For those of you familiar with these drugs any feedback would be appreciated. This can include issues with dietary/drug interactions, effectiveness etc. I have Social and Generalized Anxiety Disorder with Anhedonia and atypical depression. conundrum
MAOI are good for atypical depression and where other ADs failed. I think either nardil or parnate would be good choices. I think it would be best to try one and then if that doesn't work out, try the other, since they have different effects. Marplan is pretty weak and it sounds like you need something stronger. I'd vote for Nardil, just from family experience. It is especially good for phobias and tends to make one more social and confident. Either one could work. Its trial and error like everything else. The diet isn't as bad as people say it is. You have to be careful and not eat non-american cheeses, no beer or Chianti wine, or preserved foods. Don't take it at the same time you would be imbibing alcohol. My grand mom was on Nardil for years and never had a reaction except once a headache when she took it half an hour after having alcohol. She also had taken parnate before that and it helped as well. So I think either one could help. This is a link about nardil and social anxiety disorder. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12900950 I think your pdoc will help you pick the best one for you based on your symptoms. SashaSue
I moved this to the AD board, as that just makes more sense.
exl2398
emsam, the patch, has lax dietary restrictions on the low dose, so I would try that. It's what I am on, and it works.
