crywolf2010
after doing some research on clozapine on the net, i found out that it says its the BEST drug for schizophrenia. it says its better than any of the typicals. so when i was in hospital i was talking to a pdoc about this and some of the nurses. they agreeed. i even had a meeting with a bunch of psychiatrsts talking about the way i was feeling etc. clozapine came up and they said it is the "Gold Standard" for schizophrenia. i was like "if its the BEST why arent all schizophrenics on it?" they responded "if we gave it to every schizophrenic someone's white blood will drop and its very dangerous. apparently it can also do nasty things to your heart. guess thats why you have to have ECG's on it. any thoughts or experiences with it will be appreciated! bpladybug
The woman whom I know is on it has had psychosis which was not controlled by other APs or AAPs. I think it is the right drug for some people. Not for everyone.
Velvet Elvis
It is an AAP. It can cause rare yet dangerous side effects. As long as you have regular blood tests there should be no problem. If you are taking it without getting regular blood tests, switch psychiatrists immediately. You should not be allowed to take it without regular blood monitoring. netsavy006
I take Clozaril (clozapine). I don't mind going for the bi-weekly bloodwork though I find it to be a pain sometimes, but it's better than having near constant psychosis that I use to have. No other medication controlled it better than Clozaril and with Clozaril, I've been able to stay @ the same dosage. With other treatments I tried we had to keep increasing the dose to maintain effect. That's my experience with the medication. Clozaril is gold for me so I don't see things or have suicide thoughts.
