Pamito
Hi all. Been a few weeks since I posted. I had to go off my sweet sweet Seroquel due to side effects, and tried Zyprexa but it had bizarrely no antipsychotic effect on me at all. I am now on Solian (amisulpride) which is not common to the USA but used here in AU and in Europe. It's good! But I have moderate akathisia. My PDoc says to use valium, which I am, but I I don't want to use it long term. I'm going to my GP to get some inderal this morning. Anyone used that for akathisia? I'm gonna try 10-20mgs PRN, is that good? Has anyone else got any tips for the brain-killing restlessness and internal agitation that stupid akathisia causes? FFS its worse than weight gain IMO. Cheers
DannyBoy
Everyone says Benadryl works well. My Pdoc said to use that to determine if it goes away, then we know it's akathisia.
AnneMarie
Benadryl helps me. Inderal (propranolol) and atenol are two beta blockers often used to stop it. Big limitation is if/how much they drop your blood pressure. Cogentin is an anticholinergic that can work, too. There are other meds, too. It sounds like your doc is handling your akathesia in a standard way.
saveyoursanity
No tips, but just to say I'm really sorry that you're dealing with it. My experience with akathisia was fucking torture.

I was focusing on the OP getting Inderal and lost the part about it being of his own volition.
Pamito
Thanks for the replies, all. Inderal 10mg has really helped this morning. Akathisia is fucking torture, I had it much worse on Risperidone and Zeldox, and had to stop them, but with Solian, its just uncomfortable, so hope to manage it and stay on the med. Before this my pdoc said to take up to 30mg a day of valium to deal with it, but I'm over it. Valium is nice, but im not taking it every 5 minutes. It clouds my mind and really I'd prefer to have something that helps my heart health rather than a benzo 24/7 I will be sure to watch out for signs of low blood pressure, I walked the dog this morning and it was weird feeling so chilled while I was pounding the pavement. Inderal is a godsend so far....my legs and internal restlessness are much softer.
