koali777
I'm not really interested in another antidepresant for myself personally right now, but it's just a question of curiosity... I see other antidepressants being combined with even more antidepressants, but never hear about Pristiq. Is it ever combined with another AD? SashaSue
Koali, I'm guessing at least part of the reason you aren't seeing much of Pristique used in combination with other AD's, is that, being so similar too, and so much more expensive than, effexor, it just isn't used all that often. conundrum
I'm not a big Pristiq fan. Did it for 7 months at 100Mgs a day and it just didn't have enough power to fully effect my Atypical depression. Long before that I was on high dosage Effexor which at the time I found much more effective. (strange given the 2 drugs are so much alike) Desvenlafaxine has a closer serotonin to norepinephrine ratio than venlafaxine, by its self, not taking into account the metabolite desvenlafaxine. Venlafaxine has does some dopamine reuptake inhibition which comes into play at higher doses. This maybe why it was more helpful than pristiq. Desvenlafaxine barely blocks dopamine reuptake when compared to venlafaxine.
koali777
So basically the drugs are similar but not entirely the same? I truly wonder which one would work better for me then. Well, Pristiq is working fine, but it's still early fall and it's usually winter that I'm HORRIBLY depressed so we will see what happens. I was on Pristiq with both Geodon and Risperdal and it helped a little cause on antipsychotics alone I get pretty depressed. I mostly asked this cause I know Wellbutrin often is given with other SSRIs but I wasn't sure about Pristiq. And one of you was right...I rarely hear about Pristiq, just Effexor! And one of you was right...I rarely hear about Pristiq, just Effexor! I take Pristiq with Aplenzin, which is almost exactly the same as Wellbutrin. I'd taken Wellbutrin/Aplenzin on and off for about ten years, then Wellbutrin/Aplenzin with Lamictal, and then only a few months ago added Pristiq. It's been a good combo so far. SashaSue
Isn't aplenzin just a generic of wellbutrin?
conundrum
Isn't aplenzin just a generic of wellbutrin? I've heard that as well, but doctors are giving out samples and there are patient assistant programs that are typical with new branded drugs. See: http://www.google.com/products?q=bupropion+xl+generic&hl=en&aq=f compared to http://www.google.com/products?q=aplenzin&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wf
