Klaein
After trying many , many different antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, antipsychotics and mood stabilizers it seems Abilify is the next one in line. I have no idea why the pdoc would prescribe Abilify alone for plain old depression/anxiety. I'm not saying he is necessarily wrong, It's just I have no idea why he would choose this med. Well, anyway he sent me home with a sample pack of the 2mg pills. He told me that if I can tolerate the med I should call him so he can fill the prescription. Now yesterday...took half the pill (1mg) within 3 hours a very uncomfortable feeling settles in. An inner physical restlessness and agitation along with a feeling of complete exhaustion when performing any kind of physical activity.. So today I get the dose down really tiny (.25). Hopefully I can get acclimated with the med so I can increase it. He wants me up to 5mg eventually. What do you ppl think? Could better days be ahead of me with the Abilify? snoozzinsuz2
OMG!!! I started Abilify yesterday took the 2mg pill (from a starter pack as well) On tuesday I was flying a little high but not out of control... but finally happy! Put's me on this and told me to take in the am.... by like 12:00 I was starting to yawn but I hadn't really felt "good" all day. By the time I got home at 5:30 I could barely function... took a nap on the sofa to get enough energy to walk the dog and then went to bed at 8:30. Then I woke up at like 1am sweating and feeling hot and that went on til like 9 am texted my doc today and she said to try cutting it in half... I am almost scared to but I will give it another shot on saturday... so far I am NOT a fan
saveyoursanity
I'm on abilify--5mg. It took a little while to get used to, we had to taper off to 2mg for awhile and then taper back on to 5mg, but it's been SO WORTH IT. It's cut down on my obsessional ruminative thinking, cut down on my anxiety -- both to a phenomenal degree.
koali777
There's a reason I call Abilify either Akillify or Abitchify...
Klaein
i agree with dianthus that it sounds like akathasia. i had akathasia on abilify as well, and the inner restlessness, physical exhaustion, and just being plain physically uncomfortable, really really sucks. usually with akathasia you can either A get off of it (slowely) or B take another med (like Neurontin) on top of that to help reduce akathasia. i chose to get off of it. however, i got up to 30mgs and it did crap shit for psychosis (what it was prescibed for), so it was easy to chuck it. but for you, if its almost a "last resort" medication you might want to think before you chuck. especially if you are a low dose and you didnt give it much of a chance. but no matter what tell your pdoc ASAP. abitchify...heh. so true! Yes, those symptoms you describe in yourself if that was akathesia the it's probably causing it in me too. Ever seen the Abilify commercials? I'm pretty much getting all of those side effects rolled into one. It's not exactly a last resort. I have just been through a bunch of them. I decided to stop taking it it for now. Even .25 causes restlessness in me. I'm not exactly ditching it, I WANT it to work... I'm gonna call my pdoc about an add on med. If Abilify turns out to be garbage for me there are still several meds left that I have not tried... Effexor, Celexa, Prozac, TCA's (the only one tried was clomiprimine), Wellbutrin, and a bunch of them I believe I was prescribed way too high a dose on most of them. I would be willing to give those a second shot too. Thanks...

LiquidLability
It sounds like akathesia indeed. Ask about propranolol a beta blocker. I had the same problem but loved the meds results, i was upset to put it down to say the least. I have tried benadryl with no success, but this new add on is a miracle to me!?!!! koali777
When I was on Abilify no one was smart enough to put me on Cogentin or anything (idiots...I TOLD them I was restless... ) Anyway, I bet if I'd been on Cogentin or something, this wouldn't have happened. On Abilify, I couldn't sleep more than 4 hours and I only fell asleep because they gave me Seroquel. I walked around crying and screaming and couldn't stand still. It was AWFUL. I didn't have the emotional aggravation on Geodon but still had the physical stuff, and Cogentin helped. I ONLY tried Cogentin though...I've heard Benadryl, Propranonol, etc works too... jarn
I'm getting switched onto Abilify and asked my p-doc about Cogentin (had appointment today) - I have some from laryngeal spasms caused by Seroquel. He said Cogentin helps with certain EPS but NOT akathisia.

It seems to help some but he said Inderal was more specific for Akathisia. nf
