I went back to my pdoc, and was prescribed Abilify half mg. This means I have to quarter a 2 mg tablet on a plate with a razor blade. So far my best accuracy is a third of a tablet. Has anyone else been prescribed such a low dose? I am also taking Concerta 36 mg. Any reply would be appreciated.

Hi silvermoon. Wow...good luck. I've heard of the lowest dose at 2mg, but never so small as to do what you're doing. I have to cut my 5mg tablets in half for my dose...that's tricky enough. Wish I had some suggestions for you.

I feel bad for you. Cutting a 5mg pill in half with a pill cutter pissed me off. I wanted to go to a higher dose just so I didn't have to do that anymore. I doubt a pill cutter would help with something that tiny. Sorry you have to do that. Arg.

I am still bothered by ruminating thoughts. I have an rather intense internal dialog in my brain. From what I understand, the Abilify is supposed to boost dopamine and decrease these kinds of symptoms. Some of the other SSRI I have taken in the past over shoot the seratonin which really makes my thoughts out of control. Instead of being a rapid mood cycler, becomes a mood fibrillation. She said some people can be managed on tiny doses, I have yet to find anyone who has been placed on such small doses.

I take 5 mg for a month now. That's not REAL low but it's relatively low.

The dose I take helps me with what you describe....Has it helped you?

I just started taking it, I am supposed to increase to 1 mg if I don't feel any changes in 10 days. Thanks for sharing your experience, now I feel encouraged.

Silver moon,

Like I said earlier, I halve a 5mg tablet (2.5mg) for my PTSD symptoms, which also means reoccuring thoughts (a.k.a. hypervigalence about my environment). It did help. I don't feel any side effects at this low dose, but do feel some sort of effect now that it's been about a week or two since I started it. I can't imagine any lower dose would help, but best of luck. Again, wish I had more info.

When I first started I took 1mg and wow, it was like the world's best antidepressant (Bipolar depression), though I was irritable. Then lithium came along and I was much better. I have heard of someone taking .5mg for excessive side effects at 1mg, though I don't remember how it worked.
