Guest Recluse
Because of some crummy side effects on Vyvanse, my pDoc is romancing the idea of switching me from Vyvanse to Concerta, but wants to let me make the decision one way or the other. To those of you who have taken both: How do they compare? What should I expect? What should I look out for in your own words? I've read the drug facts on both, but I'd like to hear what you all thought about them.
crazycatnapper
I'm on Concerta and would like to hear some replies on this as well. I have thought of going the other direction and switching to Vyvanse
Velvet Elvis
I tied vyvanse for a while and found it to be the least "stimulating" stimulant. If you're taking it for narcolepsy it might not keep you awake.
crazycatnapper
Thanks VE. My doc hasn't mentioned it, but I was just curious about it. Since I'm on an Maoi, they are being really careful adding a stimulant (duh) and I'm only on 18 mg of concerta now. Hope doc ups that in the coming weeks because although I'm not sleepy, I'm still exhausted and need a bigger boost.
Velvet Elvis
You might want to try a 10mg Dexedrine spansule instead. It the precursor or whatever you want to call it to vyvanse and packs a bit more of a punch. I assume you've tried or otherwise ruled out provigil? crazycatnapper
Thanks. I just heard that Vynase acted more on dopamine and I think that would really help both my depression and my sleepiness. I just want to toss it out to doc to see what he says, but will probably just up my Concerta a bit first. Or just go to regular Ritalin twice a day if approves that. The concerta only gives me about 8 hours and costs me a bloody fortune to fill. I can take two pills a day of ritalin, even if I have to have a little droopy period, for the 70 bucks a month difference. Provigil and Nuvigil gave me the worst nausea of my life. It was like having severe morning sickness 24/7 and I was miserable. I was awake but threw up every time I tried to even move.
mj1127
I always found that on Concerta, (and all the methylphenidates) I felt medicated, whereas on Vyvanse, other than some irritability when it wore off the first few weeks, I just felt functional once it started working. crazycatnapper
I don't feel one bit medicated. I just feel a bit more awake. I ran out of Concerta today (overdue for Pdoc...aaack) and just took one of mom's Ritalin tabs. It was only 10 mg, but I feel better than taking the 18 mg concerta. That really surprised me. SashaSue
Recluse - What side effects have you had with vyvanse? Other than the side effects, how had it been working for you?
chipmunk
I really liked the Vyvanse - I thought it worked light years better than the Concerta or Ritalin - but it lasted too long for me. I wasn't tired until about midnight even when I took it at 7 in the morning. My doctor said that Ritalin & Concerta were one type of amphetamine and Vyanse & Adderall were another, and some people respond better to one or the other. Oh, almost forgot, had terrible acne when I was on the Vyvanse. I have heard that from a lot of other people as well. I was not sad to leave that side effect behind.
