netsavy006
I've not heard of it but here's the wikipedia on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sertindole It's probably not here yet in the U.S.
notfred
It has been out since the mid to late 1990's. Withdrawn from the market for a while due to cardiac arrhythmia but put back on the market to 2002 when it was proven the risk was no greater that other AAP's. nf

I don't know that it was actually a study that resulted in its being pulled from the market. It looks more like it was a result of patients experiencing sudden death, and other cardiac issues. But had it been a study, how does it make sense for a pharmaceutical company to have slanted a study away from its own product?

I was thinking more that another pharmaceutical company could have sponsored a study that researched the side-effect profiles of the drugs, and that the company itself would have financed a study to show it was not any worse than the other AAPs. It was an unmeasured statement. My apologies.
labratmat
i live in australia and just looking on the net i saw that a new antipsychotic called "sertindole" just came out here in aus ! has anyone heard of this drug or had experience with it or know much about it? hi, first and foremost thanks for telling us about the ap. I researched it a little and at first it was taken off the market for issues regarding cadiac arrhythmia , however, it was reapproved and seen as safe as it was proved to be no more or less dangerous than other aps. Here is a link with the information on the case of cardiac arrhthymia and other information on sertindole http://www.medscape....rticle/430851_6 I, currently take risperidone and found this link for those that are interested. It illustrates risperidone in contrast to sertindole. http://norge.lundbec...rmacol.2006.pdf It shows promising results with lower incidences of EPS such as akathisia and good results in comparison to risperidone in Positve and Negative symptoms. It is not sedating which is also a plus point, however, it has been found to cause a reduction in ejaculate but not the sex drive or libido. This can be of concern to prospective fathers and young males. On average an expected weight gain of 5% is expected with this drug , compared to 7% with risperidone and higher with other aps. I hope this helps. cheers, labratmat

The article is called," The emerging role of sertindole in the management of schizophrenia."and it is worthwhile to read it in full: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2938292/ It covers almost all the aspects and takes into account the other atypical aps with all the current clinical trial information. hope this helps, cheers labratmat
