So, I just started taking Lithium last night, and had my first full day of taking it today. The Pdoc told me that stomach problems were a side affect but "Don't worry, most people don't get them. Well, I've had a total of 3 doses and had diarrhea twice today. I've been drinking water and Gatorade and have at either with or just before taking it. Will this go away, cause it seems like more than just a little nausea.

You should talk to your pdoc about titrating more slowly.

I had a hard time starting Lithium. Actually, I first went up quickly, it stopped the noise in my head, miraculous, then I got sicker than a dog. I ended up taking 300mg for a few weeks. Then alternative between 300mg and 600mg for a week or two. Then did 600mg for a few weeks. Then went to 900mg and my head got quiet again. I no longer have any problems with Lithium, including restart at higher doses.

It's settled down some now, finally. ironically though, instead of increasing my appetite, it seems to be having a reverse affect, i'm less hungry than usual, but thirsty ALL the time. Especially since the weather here-which had been cooling down- has now shot back up to 70's/80's again.

It does not make me hungry either, and thirsty all the time is common. For the best gastrointestinal success, it was recommended to me to take it with a small meal, like a bowl of cereal or a sandwich or something, but nothing greasy.

In the morning I've taken my pill on an empty stomach without water -- it's not suggested. The capsule broke apart and I coughed up a cloud of dust, I'm not sure how much of the dose I lost. Regardless, I've not experienced any nausea from lithium -- I have had diarrhea, and intense shakes when I was dehydrated after exercising. It inhibits my appetite and I feel more.. not tired, exactly, but not as stimulated at least. Glad your GI tract settled down :)

Yea, like I'm not sleepy but I'm def a bit more chilled. Even my mom said today that she liked having conversations with me now because I sound slower and less.... bouncing from one subject to another. I'm pretty glad my GI settled to, diarrhea, not a fun thing to have for a week. I have been eating small meals or drinking milk with my dosage which seems to help. I've noticed myself getting shaky a couple of times, but for the most part it's working great.
