Hi there!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm Bry. I'm sorta new here. I've been a lurker for a while. Registered a long time ago, but never really posted. Anywho, I'm just saying hi.

I guess I've been kinda afraid to post on here cause I don't actually have a diagnosis.

I know something's not right, but I've never been to a pdoc.

Mental illness runs in my fam. I can say with complete certainty I have depression issues(and most of my friends think I'm probably bp).

When I was a kid, I had anxiety issues related to school. Was on xanax for a little while.

I've been self harming since before I can remember. Literally. I remember being like 4 and punishing myself for "being bad."

I also have post concussive disorder from a nasty accident that happened in high school. I get chronic migraines from it too.

Other then that, I guess I'm your average young adult.

I'm in college and majoring in chemistry. I intend to go to med school...one day. If I can ever finish my undergrad.

I'm kinda getting nervous about posting this now, so I think I'll shut up and just push the button.

;)

Hi Bry, Just because you don't have a current diagnosis doesn't mean you don't belong. I've been previously diagnosed before, but that was quite awhile ago. I've actually gained a bit of courage on this site to see a tdoc, in turn, later setting me up for a pdoc. I also know I've never been quite right in the head. My only problem was not sticking to the meds, which in turn have turned my world upside down yet again. I got the case of the old "I'm feeling better now, I don't believe I need the meds anymore." Big mistake I've come to find out. Anyways, It's nice to see you've gotten over the nervousness to post. I was extremely nervous posting here as well.

Hope you enjoy these boards. I've come to love them over the past few weeks

Bry, welcome to Crazyboards and be sure to check out the forum for students.

Does your college have a counseling office? Maybe you should start there. I know we all talk about what we think we have, but it sounds like you could use some professional help.

Please contact one of the mods if you have a question or a problem. I'm glad you stopped lurking and introduced yourself!

Yeah, my college has a counseling resource center. They're not much help and have crappy follow up though. I had to have an assessment my freshman year, and they were suppose to call and schedule more appointments and never did. I did recently ask a friend to help me get into see a christian counselor through this community service place. We'll see how that works out, I guess. I figure it's better then nothing.

Everything in the past has been mostly manageable, but right now it's starting to get overwelming. :/

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys! :)

Brykn, I just want to comment on the fact that the counseling office didn't follow up. Please keep in mind that I'm old enough to be your Gram and I'm just trying to be helpful.

One of the key things about health care is that YOU have to be your own advocate. You can't wait for other people to call back: If you don't hear from them, you call up. If you're supposed to have a prescription, you have to make sure that the doctor sent it to the pharmacy. If there is supposed to be a second appointment with a counselor, it's YOUR job to call and make that appointment.

You will never get good care if you sit back and wait for other people to act. You have to be aggressive and seek out the help you need. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is. I hope you will call the office back and make that appointment.

I don't have much faith in "Christian" counseling for mental illness. They will probably tell you to pray a lot and they won't be in favor of medication. Just my opinion, of course.

I totally understand the be your own advocate thing, but this was like 2 years ago and I was a silly 18 year old kid. I was also forced to go. I had gotten into some trouble and if I didn't I was gonna get kicked out of university. I wasn't exactly compliant. I really don't want to go back there now because I'm in a position of authority at my university now and I don't want to do anything to put that in jeopardy.

Hey Bry! I'm new here too. I hope that you get what you are looking for out of this board and start to feel better soon. Chemistry is such a demanding major! I was majoring in biology and I just couldn't handle all that coursework on top of my emotional instability. I admire your bravery in sticking with your major. It's really a tough one!
