domovoi
i've been manic this summer, then prescribed tegretol which was a lifesaver for me in that department. i meandered about for a couple of weeks, then started going down a bit (while on the meds in my sig). recently i've been more and more down as the days progressed. but what happened about 4 days ago is that i took more risperdal by accident one night (about 4 mg) and woke up very happy (actually i only suspected that i overdid it with risperdal when i woke up THAT happy - i slept well and i felt energetic) then back to same low mood for several days and last night i actually took 4 mg on purpose because i felt too down and guess what.. waking up today was much much better and i was actually able to work. has anyone here ever taken risperdal for depression? here i should mention that i used to take seroquel for depression very successfully until i started getting freaky side effects. you guys have any experience with risperdal in that department? thanks
AnneMarie
I've seen it reported as a good adjunct to an AD. On it's own, I haven't seen claims that it's particularly strong as an antidepressant. YMMV, though. Talk to your doc about trying a higher dose to deal with the depression. If it works, why not have the effect all the time.

AnneMarie
I personally get more mileage out of Lamictal and from Lithium. I'm actually in the process of going back on Lithium due to seasonal depression. We descreased Risperdal, but I want to go back up and descrease Tegretol instead. I want to go back up Risperdal more for clarity issues than depression efficacy. Idk. We'll see what my pdoc says. Guess I should update my sig. domovoi
neither lamictal nor lithium did anything for my depression. i used to use them conjunctively first for depression then for mania but i kept cycling. the only two medications that have ever made rapid and efficient difference were seroquel (especially for depression, then for mania) and now tegretol that has snapped me out of mixed state. seroquel was a gold mine for me until it turned nasty and started causing intense hallucinations which i endured for a good month because that med for me was just that genius but in the end it takes its toll. i think some antipsychotics are better for me than anticonvulsants (tegretol notwithstanding) for mood stabilization. although i've never gotten that from risperdal, of all things, before. Moody
Risperdal helps me with depression. I also take Remeron, but I dont think the remeron does anything for my depression anymore, it mainly helps with anxiety and sleep and keeps the risperdal from being too activating. If I take risperdal alone I get insommnia. I like Risperdal, I am on a low dose and I have very few side effects from it.
