salaatti
I'm taking Abilify (22.5 mg), risperidone (6 mg) and mirtazapine (30 mg). For about a week, I've been experiencing a feeling like something's pressing on my throat. It always goes away after a while and I don't have trouble breathing or swallowing, just this feeling of something pushing on my throat. Is this a side effect of something I'm taking or completely unrelated? I've been on all the meds for at least a few months now, so there's nothing new I could blame this on. The risperidone and Abilify were increased about two moths ago.
Moody
It could be caused by the increase in Risperdal and/or Abilify. That side efffect can occur with either of them. I would mention it to your pdoc and see what s/he thinks. I had a similar side effect when I had a med change that increased the effects of risperdal. Did you end up having to change your meds? (I'm really scared that I'll have to do that because of side effects as I feel like we've finally found a combination that actually seems to work.) Moody
Yes, I was taking Wellbutrin and Risperdal, and I had to stop taking them together. My symptoms were pretty bad though, I felt the pressure throughout my throat and chest, and I also had esophageal spasms that made eating very difficult. I am currently on risperdal and remeron and I do not have that side effect anymore. Talk to your pdoc, maybe you can get rid of the side effect by adjusting the dose of your meds a bit, you may not need a complete change since you were doing fine before you raised the doses of your AAPs. That sounds scary, good to hear that you don't have it anymore. I mentioned it to my pdoc and she told me to decrease the risperidone. We'll see how that goes, I'm trying not to worry about this.
