girl_interrupted
Hi, Currently on Seroquel xr 300mg as well as Remeron 60mg, valproate 750mg, Topamax 125mg and PRN Clonazepam 0.5mg for Bipolar II, BPD and OCD. The Seroquel is giving me severe nightmares and has reached the point where it's no longer viable. Any ideas what to expect next? I've only been on Largatil in the past as an anti psych so it's all a bit new and not sure what to expect.
netsavy006
What is the Seroquel XR given to specifically treat (like hallucinations or sleep or mania or depression for eg).?
NullChamber
for bpd, there's Geodon, Abilify, Zyprexa, and Risperidone. id wager youd be given one of these.
girl_interrupted
Hi, The main reasons are hallucinations (visual and auditory) and sleep. It treated the sleep for about 2 weeks until the nightmares started and then as the dose increased that affect wore off. The hallucinations have been better. I think my Pdoc wanted a med that could also generally help with the bipolar as well. I have already told him Zyprexa is not happening because of the weight gain but would be interested to know anything about Risperidone.
netsavy006
Well I know I can't provide the same info as a psychiatrist but from what I know about Ripseridone since you are interested is that you can take it either once a day or twice a day and the dose range (average) for hallucinations is 1 - 6 mg per day. girl_interrupted
Hi, Thanks Sylvan for the info, that has helped a lot. Also thanks netsavy for the doseage info. Just occured to me this will be third change as I was on Meliril awhile ago and totally forgot. See the Pdoc in just over a week but really want to stop the seroquel now. Not sure if I can endure another nightmare. Just wish this was over.
Guest Vapourware
Personally ziprasidone/Geodon has helped me a lot with my auditory hallucinations and delusions, and it also helps me with sleep. Plus it has been a good mood lifter, so for me it has had multiple uses. It's also weight neutral. The main downsides to ziprasidone is its short half-life and that it can cause insomnia if you don't ingest it with food. From my experience, it has to be taken with food to be effective. CrazyCatLady
Several years ago I took Geodon which really helped with hallucinations. It didn't seem to help much with sleep for me, so I took Ambien and Trazodone along with it. I'm currently on Risperdal for delusions and sleep, and it really helps with sleeping. I only take it at night because it makes me sleepy, though my pdoc told me I could take a smaller dose in the morning to help control my symptoms. As someone who has pretty much always had really disturbing dreams, I can tell you that I don't have them nearly as often while taking Risperdal (I don't know if that's actually because of the med though). I haven't gained any weight on it (didn't with Geodon either) and I really don't notice much in the way of side effects.
