jarn
I did a search but didn't see anything. Took my first dose of Abilify (5mg) this morning about 8.30 AM. At about 2.30 PM I started to have nausea. I stopped by the pharmacy on the way home to pick up my Seroquel and bought some Gravol (generic). Still have mild nausea. Toby and I were cleaning the fridge out and I had to stop helping (which, okay, says we leave food in the fridge too long). I didn't puke but I came close. In your experience, how long does the nausea from Abilify take to abate (I'm assuming my body will eventually get used to it and stop getting nauseous)? A few days? A week? I go up to 10mg after a week at 5mg and go up every week until I get to 20mg. Then we'll decide if I go up to 30mg and once my dose has been decided I'll go off Seroquel (I told my p-doc I don't care whether I go off Seroquel cold turkey or gradually; I've gone off both ways and both ways I was sick - gradually once I went off it totally I had the morning pukes for about 6 weeks, so in my opinion I may as well go off cold turkey). But I would like to avoid the double whammy of Abilify nausea AND Seroquel withdrawal nausea. And I really want Abilify to work for me, so I'm hoping/deciding that this will just be temporary. Any experience would be great.
astrostar
you sound like me.. the drs were putting me on abilify.. 5 mg.. then week later 10mg.. then 15mg till i see him.. also from seroquel but i stopped taking it cause i became afraid.. i had valium for the first week on abilify.. which i think stopped the nausea.. after that week i started feeling nauseaic also had indigestion.. it started to be less after about 2 weeks.. try eating something with it that might help.. also try talking to your dr s/he might be able to give you something for it. Sras
When I started on Abilify 5mg I was vomiting. The nausea passed after about 3-4 days so it should get better for you after a while. When I upped my dose to 10mg some nausea came back but it was much milder and didn't last long at all.
jarn
Thanks guys. That's a relief to hear that it passes. I'm taking it with some food this morning (as I type this actually) and I took some Gravol with it as well. I also found some prochlorazine/prochlorperazine (it says both on the bottle) that my GP prescribed the first time I went off Seroquel - it's from April 2009 - I don't see any expiry date so I may use it if the Gravol isn't cutting it. Mmmmars
N-A-U-S-E-A.....What? I didn't expect that . Can I expect some weight loss here? For now, I've been prescribed, Abilify 5mg-mornings. So little, for now. It gets better right?( the nausea?) I don't mind the weight loss, though. Gained 25 while taking seroquel for the duration of less than 3 months. Kermit? What does he think? Well , that's another story. Humph!
lysergia
i'm about two weeks into abiify and and the nausea and hot flashes are far less frequent. i've noticed they're very dependent on what i've eaten (or not eaten). foods high in sugar spike my glucose levels (i think, and i also think i'm more prone to whacky sugar spikes because of seroquel) to the point where i get a hot flash, and those always lead to nausea for me. about once a day i still strip down to my tshirt and stand outside (and it's freakin cold where i live). i'm hoping this since this happens less than last week, by next week it will be a rare occurrence. jt07
I never got any nausea from Abilify, but I really got it from citalopram. It must be one of those side effects that some people get and some don't. Just wanted to add my 2 cents to say that not everyone gets nausea from Abilify. Anodyne Oblivion
The first time I took it a few years ago, it either didn't happen or was mild. I don't remember being nauseous. This last time (around October)? I was between moderately severe nausea and the brink of vomiting for 2.5 weeks before I said fuck it and discontinued. I'm not sure what was up with that last time. You'll probably be ok though.
Koloth
I've never experienced nausea with abilify.
