NullChamber
-would 5 mg be a sufficient maintenance dose for depressive psychosis? i can feel a slight bit of akathisia now, so i'm almost certain it would get worse if the dose is brought up. another thing is that iv recently come off of invega, but is it still in one's system even after a few days? or rather the effects of it. - does this akathisia go away after a while for most people? Thomas
I started out on 10 mg. Abilify and got TD instead of akathesia (according to my pdoc). She put me on cogentin and the side effect went away. The only problem is that I can't drive very well after taking the cogentin so I have to wait until I'm at work. Now I'm up to 20 mg. Abilify and experiencing no problems from it. Tommy

Tommy im not too keen on the idea of taking an anticholinergic because of potential cognitive impairment. i go to school so it's important that i function well. Thomas
I am a librarian so my cognitive faculties must be good, but actually they aren't as good as they used to be. Then again, a number of my meds cause cognitive impairment. Tommy
themadhatter
I float between 15 and 20 mg of abilify. That amount seems to help me out with depressive psychosis. I have severe bp 1 with psychosis but haven't had a major episode in a long time, well for me anyway. Also I have not had any side effects to speak of that I notice. Like any med ymmv. My sister was on 2.5 mg but she hated it.
mj1127
I've been on various doses from 1mg (worked very well at the time) to 12.5 (too much). I was on 10 for a while and that was OK; I'm on 5 now and I think that's probably better and where I will stay barring any major change. I had a manic episode which I think was from going up too fast while not on enough lithium, and I have come to agree with my pdoc that Abilify is a med best titrated up slowly, and taken at the lowest dose possible. If 5mg will control your symptoms, stay there. If it won't then go up, but go up slowly and only as far as it will take to control your symptoms.
