themadhatter
So I am getting a new older blackberry 8330 for verizon and was wondering if anyone else had this phone or a blackberry in general. I am kind of resistant to the idea of being "connected" all the time but I sort of need to be for my motorcycle club. I guess my main question is, is having a blackberry worth the extra monthly cost for the data plan and are they actually that addictive to earn the name crackberry? daisy
I don't have a "crackberry" but I do have an iPhone. I was incredibly addicted at first... and then again each time as I got each new iPhone. But it wears off on me after a few weeks, and I return to a normal human being in the real world. I honestly keep it off half of the time now just because I don't feel like talking to anybody. You'll probably get addicted to all of the cool new features at first, but you'll get over it. I was on it during nearly all of my waking hours when I first got it, but now only really use it for a few necessary apps (calculator, maps, clock, calendar, etc.) and a few fun apps. When I want to be disconnected and still listen to my music, I can put it on airplane mode, so I'm not connected to the world, but I still have my music in my pocket. (I believe Blackberries have airplane mode, too.) And being connected all of the time REALLY comes in handy sometimes. When I first got my iPhone, I had to be connected to my email all of the time. I don't anymore, but I also don't have to wait around for an important email all day when I AM waiting for one. Plus, I believe that Verizon is coming out with other data plans (other than unlimited) so you can choose your plan on your connectivity needs. I think the price is worth it. themadhatter
Thanks daisy. I figure I am gonna be the same way, all exctied at first but eventually I will just use it for what needs to be done and not spend a million dollars on apps. I hear there are a lot of cool and interesting things to download though so I will have to be careful and not be too impulsive buying things. Right now I have a clam shell phone so I am going to have to get used to having a brick style phone.
AnneMarie
I have a 1-2 y/o Blackberry. I disconnected my landline a few years ago, so it is my only phone. I love the calendar feature. It has saved my butt enough times to cover the cost of the phone. Email comes in handy sometimes. I haven't really gotten into texting much, so, meh, and I find the font to small to comfortably surf the net for very long. My next phone will have a bigger screen for that reason since it's a great way to fill wait time. I'm resistant to being connected 24/7 so I don't find it addictive. Guest
When my boyfriend's blackberry goes off during the middle of sex, he gets a pained look on his face that I know means he desperately wants to check it. I don't let him till we're done, but it's a total passion killer.
Moil
I had a BB Tour but I much prefer my droid 2. This is mostly because there are more free apps (yes I'm cheap) and the fact that browsing the internet is easier for me with the larger display. And speaking of the internet, it has been great being able to look up random things on the internet no matter where I am. Yes that is of little or no importance most of the time, but sometimes I forget when the Paleolithic era was and would really like to know. As for cost...my work wants me to have a smart phone, so I can't really comment there.

december_brigette
hi, yes, i have one. it came in real handy when i spent a week at my grandma's and had no other access to the "online" world. I dont really play with the apps. my daughter LURVES the camera feature. i dont get a ton of email, but i like having it on the crackberry in case i need it. you never know, right? i know there are people that use more functions than i do - however - i think it was still a good buy and i dont regret the rise in cost for the service fee. good luck & have fun!!! db
WinterRosie
It will be fun! I'm on my second in four years (my first one was used and its owner wanted it back after a while, so I got my own). There are a million and a half different settings for things. I'd suggest, if you want to be able to feel "unconnected" turn off all alerts (sound + led) for email! Set aside a day to program it the way that you think that you'd like. Then, a couple of weeks later, set aside another half-day to change everything that you thought that you'd want but didn't. Then you should be set
