BuSpar and Rage?

Recommended Posts

Guest Recluse

So for the greater part of 2 weeks, I've been off of Celexa, which I took for a month, and been on 15mg of Buspar, divided and taken twice a day. The first few days were pretty calm, but now I'm experiencing short, intense bouts of rage unlike anything I've ever dealt with before. It's upsetting me, and making my husband miserable.

I'm due to call the pDoc about it on Monday, and I know it's a nasty side-effect, so I don't need that kind of advice, but has anyone here experienced rage or aggression on Buspar?

According to RxList Rage/Hostility was a side effect in 2% of trial patients.

I'm glad it's documented somewhere. Most of the searches I preformed ended up discussing rage as a side effect of Xanax rather than Buspar. - It feels ridiculous that I'd have such a rare side effect on Buspar, when I also had a rare side effect on Celexa, that being apathy. The likelihood of it happening twice in a row seems off...maybe I'm just looking too hard?

The hostility is pretty horrible, but I'm concerned that it's all in my head.

I think if you have a strong feeling it is the Buspar, then you are probably right. I have always been right when I trust my intuition on things like that.

Buspar made me dizzy and didn't help with patience or mood. It was pretty much worthless for me.

Yea 23 old male here and I fought my brother for no reason just last night at one point wanted to kill him. Was working wonders for my anxiety and OCD but then weight gain set in and within 2 weeks small bouts of rage that turned me into an asshole for 15 minutes at a time. What a shame such a great drug doesn't mess you up or get you high and does it exactly what it's meant to, there just always seem to be a catch and this one is weight gain/rage.

I was prescribed BuSpar for Anxiety and Depression. After two weeks of being on it I experienced bouts of rage. The one to prompt me to stop taking it was when I attacked myself with a hammer causing a good amount of damage to my leg. I attacked myself because I was so angry that I was afraid I would attack my husband or children. I stopped the buspar immediately and never had another bout that bad. It was terrifying for my husband and kids. I had thoughts of killing him, running away and jumping in front of a big truck, along with other really bad thoughts. I am not without occasional thoughts now but none as severe as then. I think BuSpar should be taken off the shelves. I could have killed 4 people that day. All of which I would never be able to live without.

I've just had my buspar increased to 30 mg and haven't had any rage. my general anger is actually a lot better than it was earlier last year.

I'm not a doctor so I'm not saying that it isn't the Buspar but is there any chance it is still a withdrawal side effect from Celexa?

*justalittleunstable,* Recluse started this thread over 4 years ago. Some new person revived it, we call these "zombie threads." As per usual, it was someone who dropped by just to complain; we must have showed up when she did a search. They usually go around the internet leaving there story behind as if it were scientific evidence.

If you have questions about buspar side effects, please feel free to start a new thread.

I'm having the same problem with this med. I have had headaches everyday since I started this. I'm on 5mg two times a day. I feel swollen, my calf muscle has been hurting, I am very edgy, irritable and now I can't sleep. My anxiety is through the roof. I've been taking this for about 2 weeks or so now and i hate the way I am feeling. I'm calling my doctor on Monday and switching back to citalopram.

Yes indeed.  I had it so bad one day I got into a road rage incident and drove at the guy's car while calling him a cunt out the window.  I told my partner I was getting out of the car. This would have been comical since I am 5'1.
