Can Zyprexa affect your sleep

Recommended Posts

I'm going to wait until my appt to address this to my pdoc unlike the past where I would rush to doctors because I know that wasn't helpful, but I wanted to know if Zyprexa can affect sleep.

What's happening with me (since I started it on 10/21), is that I'm getting up about 4 - 5 am and then sometimes I go back to sleep but by 6 - 7 am I'm fully awake and have to be productive. If on the days I have to go to program and I need to be up at 6 and the alarm goes off and I'm first getting up it's good, so that I'm functional for the day, but on the weekends, it's bad because I turn the TV on or try to do things to be productive and I disturb others in the house. (like my mom or bro for ex.)

So I would like to know (since it didn't start before Zyprexa), could the Zyprexa have any affect on this?

(of course I will bring this up with my doctor, but I do want to let you know I want to remain on Zyprexa was well)

One thing I may be thinking is possibly, could the dose be too low?

I don't know but if anyone can help me that would be great.

Thanks,

Andy.

It's not that easy. I don't have a book that I can read here at home because I never kept books. I'm not a big reader. Plus, I try to keep heavy tabs on my sleep habits only because it's a part of how it affects my mood symptoms. I don't want to end up manic again and in the hospital so soon.

Dude, waking up at 6 or 7 in the morning and wanting to start your day at that time is in no way abnormal or undesirable. It's a good thing! What time do you go to bed? Wanting to oversleep so that you won't disturb other people -- which is what you're saying you want to do -- is completely absurd. Sleeping excessively, especially for that reason, is not a good thing! I'm sure you can figure out something to do with your extra time that doesn't wake people up. Going online? Watching tv with headphones. Taking a walk.

It's ok to get up at about 6am during the week but on the weekends I'd like to be able to sleep in a little. I use to be able to sleep in till about 8 or 9.

I go to bed at 10pm.

This problem didn't start before adding the Zyprexa on 10/21.

Just the fact of turning on the TV (even with no volume) wakes my bro up. And when I'm getting up to go to the bathroom between 4 - 5 in the morning, I'm waking Mom up (even though she's not getting out of bed, but she tells me about it later on).

I can't have this if I'm to eventually move out and be in an Apartment Treatment Program.

Zyprexa is sedating. When I take it, I have trouble waking up early, and I am naturally an early riser. It would seem unlikely that it would have the opposite effect.

What do you mean you can't have this if you move into an apartment? If you live with a roommate, observe normal courtesy and don't play the drums or hammer things into the wall at 4am. Getting up at night to use the bathroom or turning on a muted tv, especially at a NORMAL morning hour, is not discourteous but rather, NORMAL. It sounds like your family members are the ones who are bizarrely sensitive.

If you go to bed at 10, you should wake up not much later than 6, really. Sleeping more than 8 hours regularly isn't a great idea for most people.

Well when I get up @ 4, I do go back to sleep after using the bathroom. I guess mom's just a very light sleeper and hears me.

What you say sorrel does make since. I'm not having any other problems but why would this start happen after starting a sedating med like Zyprexa?

Does it matter? Sleep habits sometimes just change especially if you are becoming more stable than you used to be. It could be coincidental with the Zyprexa. Since nothing is actually wrong that needs to be remedied, I'd say who cares.
