v i c + o r i a
Hello I'm new here, as is probably evident by the fact that I'm introducing myself here. I'm eighteen, going on nineteen. Freshman at Indiana University. I'm not going to hide the fact that I'm gay, so if you don't like it, ignore anything I post. As you probably already know just by the fact that I am on this website, I have mental issues. Although, there is probably more wrong with me than I even know, thanks to my aversion to therapy. I'm really bad at just pulling random facts about myself out of my ass. So, if there is anything you would like to know, I guess you can just email me (my email is on my profile) or find some other way to contact me. We can be a) best friends b)worst enemies or c) entirely indifferent towards one another. It doesn't really matter to me. Although a few new friends would be nice... mudpuppy
Oh great. Just what we need. More of you queer people mucking up the place. Welcome to CB. [that, in case you couldn't tell was sarcasm. The first part, not the second. For the record, I won't object to your gayness, if you don't object to the fact that I enjoy ice water. Also? I think heteros are in the minority here. *checks self. checks partner*. Yep, still Queerer than $2 bills.]

olga
Welcome to Crazyboards. Please ignore Jaxken's comment: you will find that most of the people here don't much care one way or the other about whether you are gay, straight, bi, trans or any other option. Please contact a mod if you have any questions. I'm glad you're here. olga

You are the negative one that needs to be ignored. olga is a mod, so it's actually sorta her job to interject when necessary. [Hint: Under a poster's avatar is their Group. Mine says Member. So does yours. What does olga's say? Something different, huh. Also, see the purty blue icon that says Staff? Yeah.] I, on the other hand, actually am just a jerk, and interject because I enjoy it. Not to answer for the OP, but a lot of folks that live in the GLBT mishmash tend to put that info out there, up front. Why? Because it can sorta suck to go around exposing all your hurt and crazy and what have you, and beginning to trust people, just to be slapped in the face with intolerance. Homophobia/transphobia is the only socially acceptable form of bigotry in this country, and you never know where you're going to run into it. ESPECIALLY on teh interwebs. So yeah, I can't speak for the OP, but that is *one* reason someone would put that info in their very first post. Might as well test the waters. Second... Do you also question people who say they are married, as to why they included *that* info in *their* first post? Because that's essentially the same as declaring sexuality in the majority of cases. Third... While I'm pretty sure the random, unrelated comment in the middle of your post was designed to call attention to the seeming random, unrelatedness of the OP declaring their sexuality [see above for more about why the basic assumption inherent in your attempt at humorous critique is fail]... We have a good deal of people here diagnosed with developmental and/or learning disabilities. So we're not exactly huge fans of the word "retard", or variations thereof. For more info about words we are huge fans of, see also: Douchecanoe [Edited to fix a gajillion grammatical and spelling errors. 'cause I'm one'o'dem ratard people.]

ESPECIALLY on teh interwebs. I'm going to disagree with you on this, Mud. It's perfectly acceptable to hate on the mentally ill in some pretty broad and public ways. People muster all the political clout they can and speak very loudly against the MI half way house going in their neighborhood. That is not just fine to do, but to be expected. I've heard people say that, "Mentally ill people should not be allowed to work with us," at most places that I've worked. I've also a manager or two recite the spiel about how everyone is equal and s/b treated with respect and end the same sentence with, "not that we'd have any mentally ill people here." Forced sterilization happens. Some even say it's okay to euthanize.

You're damn right, and I feel... well... like a bit of a douchecanoe, for my oversight. I think in general, because I am a combat Vet, I encounter a lot more tolerance for my crazy vs the average citizen. It is generally considered in poor taste to discriminate against Veterans in any way for having MI, to the extent that many states have considered passing laws requiring more lenient sentencing for combat Vets with PTSD who commit crimes. [Which I think is utter horseshit, FYI.] I think unwittingly benefiting from this double-standard has skewed my perception a good deal, so I appreciate the reality check. [ETA: You'd think the fact that transfolk generally have the fact that GID is in the DSM used against them as evidence that their gender identity isn't legitimate or that they deserve less rights would keep me cognizant of these things...]
