themadhatter
So my doc just put me back on cymbalta 30 mg once daily as an alternative to intensive outpatient for some really bad depression. I basically got her to agree to try this before going outpatient since I don't have insurance as of yet. My question is, is it normal to get worse before getting better? It has been yearssince I was on cymbalta so I don't remember how long it took to kick in. Before I was put on it I wasn't psychotic but now I am starting to get worse ie hearing things and maybe seeing things. I say maybe because I was kind of sleepy when I saw shadow people and am not sure if it was a dream or not but I am def hearing voices occasionally. I have been on the cymbalta for about 4 days so I don't think it is helping yet but I am a little nervous about getting much worse before the med kicks in. The doc thinks the low dose will work well with my other meds (in the sig) espcially the abilify. I am just a little nervous. I plan on calling the doc monday since I am not a threat or harm to anyone and can sort of control the pyschosis, I mean I now the things aren't real for now. So is it normal to get worse before getting better on an AD.
hollywoodfreaks
In my experience yes, it is totally normal to feel worse before you feel better. I swear this happens every time I start a new medication. I've been on Cymbalta for like 4 years now, so I don't remember what happened when I first started, but I'm sure I got worse first. It is really tough to get through. Hang in there.
SashaSue
It's not normal to become psychotic before getting better. If you haven't already done so, call your pdoc asap.
themadhatter
Forgot I made this topic, I did call the pdoc and we tweaked the meds a little. She was very concerned about the psychotic stuff but once she raised my abilify things seemed to subside. Also I am getting a little better on the cymbalta and am actual able to do things now. hollywoodfreaks
Good! I should clarify that I meant that it's not unusual for an AD to make you feel worse depression-wise. Not psychotic-wise.
