I need help

Recommended Posts

Short background

Suicidal, went to inpatient where they took me off seroquel 400mgs of it, brought it down to 25mgs, then put me on ativan/restoril for sleep while they switched my AD over to Effexor ER.

Now it's a week later and I have insomnia even when I take the sleep aids. I'm taking 30mgs of restoril, 1mg ativan, 25mg seroquel at night, 300mg effexor ER mornings, but just lying in bed for 12 hours. Anyone come across this nightmare before and what should I do? I try exercising and everything but I'm getting mentally exhausted now. I lost a night 2 nights ago, and lost another last night. Doctor's office is closed but i'm desperate for sleep. Would more seroquel help?

And can sleep aids backfire ?

Without knowing your dx, it's really hard to make suggestions. Seroquel is totally my go to for sleep issues, so I tend to think more of that would help, but IDK why they reduced your dosage so much in hospital.

I don't know either, i've been on such a rollercoaster since i went in, I guess he thought it wasn't helping my depression but making it worse.

i've been up 24 hours and don't feel tired at all =( I hope more seroquel tonight puts me out.

Have you had a sleep study done? If not, I'd really recommend pushing for one. I have had sleep problems all my life and never really did well with most sleep meds, and several of the doctors I saw hinted that I was just making up my symptoms for attention. When I finally had a sleep study done, it showed I have a rare sleep disorder that doesn't respond to most sleep meds, as well as a few more common sleep disorders. Once I had an accurate diagnosis, it was much easier to get on meds that actually helped.

My DX is depression now, it often changes, but nobody has dxed me bipolar just yet.

I never had sleeping problems until i went inpatient then left. I guess losing the seroquel is probably what did it but i'm not 100%.

Am I in trouble being on ativan and restoril at the same time? They didn't seem too concerned about it in the hospital....

Not tired - are you fatigued, mentally exhausted - or alert and sharp?

Sounds like a rebound from dropping the seroquel so quickly. The ativan (lorazepam) and restoril (temazepam) should be helping you to sleep.

Ya I was sleeping in the hospital. I was probably more active talking to people and such, probably contributes, cause since I've been home I've been inactive and my anhedonia has returned. I just don't care about anything.

I took 50mgs of Seroquel last night with 1mg of ativan dropped the restoril and it worked. Hope it works tonight.
