swanny
just wanted to discuss something.... you know seroquel(regular) half life is 6 hours. so if you missed 1 or 2 doses most of it will be out of your system? does that mean you have to be more compliant with it? and you cant afford to miss doses? even 1 dose? does it really matter? i guess the more doses you have to take during the day the shorter half life it has. i know with abilify its half life is 72 hours and when i took it (15mg) and got akathisia after it was stopped it took 1 week to get out my system.. i mean with tablets compared to injection particularly with antipsychotics does it really matter if you miss 1 or 2 doses? could u relapse from just this? at least when i was injection i didnt have to remember to take pills daily or twice a day or whatever... Guest
Depending on the AP, You start to get withdrawal. Some are worse than others... Seroquel isn't too bad, but by memory Ziprasidone is one of the worse. etc
crazynotstupid
It's not just APs. Any med has a halflife. Some are longer so you might not notice if you miss a dose. Some you will. Some, it depends on how sensitive you may be to them. Aps, maybe more so, at least for me. Now me, sometimes I'll skip my meds for about 1 1/2 days when I go out to the strip club cuz dammit I want to have some fun and actually feel the alcohol...but for the luvva God I get the shakes and my brain buzzes. Yeah, you feel that shit, but it's not the be-all end-all if you miss a couple doses. I seriously don't recommend it though. I keep wondering why I do that, myself... swanny
one pdoc said if you go off a med any med and then go back on it, it "may" not work aswell. so i mean if you miss a couple of doses then go back on it, it "may" not work aswell as it used to. if your psychotic and an AP works real well and you then miss a few doses then start taking it again then "if" it doesnt work like it used to then it DOES matter.... keops
i once intentionally skipped my quel dose for one day, bc i had to go to a wedding and stay up late, so i didn't want to get tired. what a bad idea that was! i couldn't sleep for one second that night and the rebound effects were so bad i couldn't even close my eyelids. they were being forced open. i don't think i'll ever be able to sleep without meds. SashaSue
No med is going to work as well as it could if you don't take it as prescribed. If you want your meds to work, take the amount you're supposed to, when you're supposed to. If you feel like playing Russian roulette with your brain, skip dosages, do whatever, and enjoy the results.

Man, you are over thinking this swanny!!! I aim for 100% med compliance. Every Sunday I put all my pills into the pill organizer and then I take them every day, I actually need two pill organizers. I always brush my teeth and I always take my meds. I want to be well. I want to function.
crazynotstupid
Of course 100% compliance is the goal. But shit happens. You sleep in too much, forget to grab your pills in the rush to get to work on time (and are still 8 minutes late and get the stinkeye from the boss...) or some shit like that. Or your insurance runs out and you have to switch to a cheaper med till you get a new job and get to go back on the good shit. Or, you nearly die and end up with a tube down your throat for five days. Yeah, you never know. My doc never said a med might not work as well. Nor have I ever noted any reduced efficacy after restarting a med. Even months later. Meds do poop out, there's lots of reasons for this, not all known; sometimes shit just happens. That's life.
