Saphris- I lied to my pdoc :(

Recommended Posts

Ugh... I feel so bad. I read that Saphris has a wicked aftertaste and so I decided not to try the samples my pdoc gave me. He apparently will have an unlimited supply but ran out of the flavored ones or something like that. But I knew I need an AP so when he asked me if I took the Saphris I told him I tried it but the taste was too horrible. He was fine with that and tried to prescribe me Abilify but it's not covered. So now I feel really stupid and bad, I shouldn't have lied and I don't know why I did except that I do have a horrible gag reflux and Abilify really did work well with me so I just wanted to get back on that. But now mayvbe I'm thinking I should try the Saphris given the alternatives might not be so good. Is it really terrible, the taste? I could just tell him, I'll go ahead and keep taking it since there are samples and maybe eventually I'll get used to it. I mean I didn't tell him I'd been taking it regularly I just said I tried it once and the aftertaste was too horrible. *hangs head in shame*

Yes. I think you should try the saphris. Really, not trying a med because you've heard about its horrible taste seems kind of ridiculous to me. I mean, even if the taste is every bit as bad as you're expecting, if it works, who really cares? Out of the universe of potential side effects, a nasty taste is kind of minimal.

The taste is super nasty, I will agree. But it does lessen over time, you get used to it like with anything else. Try it again.

Thanks. He's got Abilify samples so I'm going to go that route. If he didn't have any, then I would've buckled down and tried the Saphris but Abilify really did work super well for me. And then if for some reason I can't stay on Abilify I'll give Saphris a try. I didn't have problems until I was up to 25 mg in Abilify, but I noticed it was already effective before I got up to that dose.

If it helps, it definitely is worth taking it, even if it has a bad aftertaste. What's a couple of seconds of bad aftertaste compared to something that might help with your symptoms. Also, never lie to your p-doc. It's just not a good idea. They can't completely help you if they don't know what's going on, and head issues are not something to play around with. Trust me, I know, I had them untreated for nearly 30 years.

Saphris does have an after taste but the outcome over that is well worth it. I've had both flavors, the unflavored and the flavored black cherry kind. Honestly, I am on the unflavored right now and I really don't miss the black cherry because it left such a sweet left over flavor as the unflavored doesn't seem to linger on and on. Please never lie to your PDOC as you may be limiting yourself and definitely are limiting the PDOC. I think your PDOC should be someone you can tell your darkest and lightest to and they will take you seriously.
