Guest Concerned sibling
My brother has taken Seroquel 5omg - 400mg in the past and now is on Seroquel XR 1000mg. I am very concerned because he lacks the mental faculty to express himself adequately. He has the mental capacity of a twelve year old. I've spoken to his doctor and local pharmacists and I have received conflicting results. My question is whether his dosage is too high? Has anyone had the same dosage? Guest
The highest recommended in their literature is 800mg, but I can think of a few people who were at 1200mg. Its not unheard of for doctors to perscribe above the recommended, Infact its pretty common for some drugs. If there is benefit going higher is open for debate, but it does work for some people. I wouldn't be overly worried, Seroquel is generally pretty safe. If in doubt perhaps you can go to an appointment with your brother, and consult his doctor in person in more detail. The big question should be if the drug has more effect than at the old lower dosage.
Maddy
We're a first person site. (AKA - by crazies for crazies) But I did look up some info on this and here's a link: http://www.rxlist.com/seroquel_xr-drug.htm Basically 800mg looks like the top end of the dosage for Seroquel XR. I've seen people have to go a bit over the top end of common dosages though on some meds so it seems more like a guideline than a hard and fast rule? Keep in mind I'm not a doctor, just gathering info and relaying anecdotal information.

SashaSue
It really depends a lot on why he's taking it, and what kind of results he's gotten on previous dosages, and is getting on this one.
bpladybug
If your brother is incapicated, and you think that is due to the Seroquel than you should ask your brother to accompany him to his psychiatrist appointment and advocate for him. The doctor is the person who can answer your questions. Yes, it is a high dose but some people need that to control their psychosis.

I have been up to 1500mg of Seroquel, however, it was because of a strong psychosis. 1000 is a high dose, 900 is generally where I was hanging around. I hope you can help your briother get the dose he needs.
