Maya
I started Aplezin about a month ago for depression. The first week I took the starting dose of 178mg (or so) and felt better within days only. It was amazingly good and amazingly FAST! More energy, capacity to focus and be productive. I hadn't felt that way in about 2 years. The next week I went up to the "full" dose, which is about 348mg. About the day I went up on the meds the effect STOPPED. It was strange. I went back to being lethargic and unmotivated. I have tried many anti-depressants before, but never has one worked so fast and only for such a short time. I know it was NOT a placebo effect 'cause I have started meds many times before. After one month, nothing changed, I never got better. A week ago I went up again and been taking 522mg since then. Still no change. Has this ever happened to anyone before? Could it take up to 3 weeks for a medication to take its full effect EVEN if you have been on it at a lower dose for already one month? Shouldn't count that it has been in my system for so long? How can it work so well so fast and then stop? Does this mean it is not the right medication for me or should I hang on to the fact that it felt great at first and that it might be a good sign? I am getting so discouraged of trying and waiting... Thank you all for your feedback ;-)
maybetinymaybesad
have you tried going back to the lowest dose? maybe that dose works better for you for some reason. alternatively....i don't know if this is what is happening to you, but, in my experience, bupropion (active ingredient in aplenzin) will give me a sort of speedy, energetic, motivated feeling for about a week after i start taking it. after that, my body adjusts to it, and i don't get that feeling anymore. it is possible its antidepressant effect hasn't kicked in yet, so maybe you should give it more time. Maddy
FWIW, my nephew did better at a dose of 150mg of Welbutrin SR but at 300mg he said it was like taking nothing at all. So perhaps you may also do better at at the lower dosage?

Are you saying you get a kick in the beginning, and then it seems to do nothing, and then there is an antidepressant response later on?
