anyone else notice this when a new antipsychotic comes out?

Recommended Posts

i was diagnosed with schizo in 2002. when first abilify came out i was like "oh goody a new antipsychotic" took it and 2 days later i couldnt sit still and coz of this i couldnt sleep! yeah miracle drug.... then zeldox first came out in oz in 07 and i was like "oh goody another new antipsychotic" was on the max dose for 6 months and didnt do squat. then FINALLY invega came out and went on that straight away. again on the max dose for months on end and it did nothing. it seems like whenever a new antipsychotic comes out ppl think its the next best thing since sliced bread and it will be a miracle cure. now in the other thread "Latuda" has come out and everyone is drooling over it and dying to try it. doubt it will be any different to any other ap ive tried. and believe me ive tried ALL of them...... i think im gonna stick with seroquel xr.... thank yup

Whatever gave you the impression that people are "drooling" over Latuda? We're obviously reading two different threads because I don't see anyone on that thread hailing Latuda as anything special.

i was just exaggerating. i would give ANYTHING to take my paranoia away and whenever a new antipsychotic comes out i get all excited thinking it will get rid of the paranoia and the unreal feeling. but sadly never does and never has happened. nearly 10 years of constant paranoia and all the antipsychotics do is "reduce" it........

.

I'm not "drooling" over Latuda. I'm fine on my Clozaril.

I am the same as you, Swanny. I got so excited to try abilify and geodon. I thought it would save my life. My PDoc was all over the new 'toys'. I just got akathisia and mania. Now I am a bit more tempered in my approach. I hope Latuda is a magic bullet but I'm 99% sure it will probably give me akathisia or make me lactate lol...and probably drool haha.

People are hoping a new AAP will have a better side effect profile than the existing AAP's on the market. If anyone drools it is a side effect !

i think there are also people hoping a new AAP will work for them better than others have.

It seems like every time a new drug comes out everyone runs around going "OMG! OMG! It's the best ever!", the demand skyrockets, the companies make a fuckton of money... and it turns out to be the same thing with the side-effects shuffled around. I wouldn't try a patented drug until all the generics were exhausted, honestly.

Who is this running around ? People know what is out there sucks, they are looking for something that sucks less. The generics in MI suck, too. TCA's and typical AP's, for instance and they were once patented.

Latuda is supposed to have a lot of cognitive benefits according to the wiki article. thanks for mentioning!

I have personally removed so much bullshit from wiki articles on psych drugs that this revelation doesn't really mean much to me.
