Japan Earthquake & Tsunami

Recommended Posts

If any of you remember our member "Lily" who lives in Tokyo, I've been in touch with her on Facebook and she is safe. It's a huge mess over there. Very sad to lose all those people.

Japan should have been one of the most prepared nations for an earthquake, but unfortunately not even they were prepared for something on this scale. The scenes from the earthquake and tsunami have been stunning, when I first saw it I thought it was straight out of a movie. If only that was the case.

Death toll/missing rises.. 1,700 on those missing trains alone:

At press time, the official death toll stood at 637, while 10,000 people were missing and 1,128 injured, but there were grim signs that the death toll could soar. One report said four whole trains had disappeared on Friday and still not been located. Local media reports said at least 1,700 people may have been killed.

As of now, there are around 18,000 dead or missing and more than 452,000 living in shelters. Shelters are still having issues maintaining food and heat, the later of which has been blamed on a few deaths in the elderly. Search crews are still working, but no longer have hope that they will find anybody alive.

Also, radiation has been found in the food and water supply in and near Fukushima prefecture - the location of the Daiichi Plant.
