bfff
Has anyone had any experience replacing a cracked laptop screen themselves? Unfortunately I can't afford to pay someone to do it for me. I have some experience disassembling/rebuilding computers. Is it a relatively easy task? Any advice would be appreciated.
Velvet Elvis
As far as I know that's generally when you get a new laptop.
Duelist
My son busted mine last friday so I am looking to buy a replacement screen too, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0TmBwvsX7Q They have laptop screens, so maybe they or this other site I am looking into might help: http://www.blisscomputers.net or http://www.laptopscreen.com Depends on the type and model of your laptop, if its an HP I have heard those need some kind of special programming but I could be wrong. What kind is it and do you know the model number? It is probably on the bottom of the laptop itself if you don't remember. It looks relatively easy to do but again I have this model netbook the video is on and I might just be lucky it looks easy to do.
AirMarshall
I haven't replaced a screen but worked on my last Dell laptop about 7 or 8 times. It was all modular (heck that's how they build 'em) so it came apart and back together relatively easily. The hardest part is finding where all the screws mounts are. Tip: Get a muffin pan or high sided bowl to keep the loose hardware and screws in. The scary part is when you get to the point when there are no screws left and you have to pry plastic apart hoping it isn't going to break. LOL. I think the considerations are: Cost of replacement screen vs. Professional repair vs. Laptop value Good luck!
