Steady state is reached in about 6 days after increasing or decreasing dosage.

Typically pattern

-1 week after dosage change

-1-3 months

-6 months

-every 6 months thereafter

-As needed based on significant events like signs of toxicity or mania.

Heavy exercise and hot weather during summer can tend to drive blood levels higher, probably due to greater perspiration. Some authors believe that increased sunshine can affect levels, many authors state that a manic episode can drive levels downward.

I prefer to check my Lithium level 3 or 4 times a year. But I am on meds for three different medical conditions and am concerned about the long term effects of taking numerous medication. My doctor pays a lot of attention to all the kidney and liver numbers.
