Geodon Experiences? (Hopefully some good ones?)

Recommended Posts

So I really need to switch from Zyprexa to something else, the weight is just getting terrible. Has anyone had any experience with this? Or with Geodon? I've had a hard time getting off Zyprexa so I'm hoping to cut over to Geodon and have it be a little easier. Any thoughts or experiences would be great! Take care!

When I was on Zyprexa I changed to Geodon. The transition wasn't hard and I got back the energy I had lost while using Zyprexa. When I was on Geodon the first time I had very few side effect, all I remember is jaw clenching. I was stable for over a year. I had to get off the Geodon because I lost my insurance and it is way too expensive to buy without any. I switched from Geodon to resperidone because it was cheaper. When I started developing psychotic symptoms my pdoc switched me back to Geodon. It was still an easy transition for me, but the Geodon didn't work like it had the last time around.

It worked well for me, though I know others have had a difficult time with it. I wish you good luck and I hope it is a fit for you.

I used to take Geodon. In terms of side effects the only ones I remember getting was urinary retention and sexual dysfunction. I didn't get any weight gain from it though and it didn't make me feel tired or sedated which was great but I had to come off it though of course.

I'm another who used to be on ziprasidone. I had mixed results while on it - while it was great at controlling my symptoms, I found the random sedation rather intrusive. Eventually I had to come off it because it was impacting my life too much. It was a shame because if it wasn't for the random sedation, I would've liked to stay on it.

Thanks for all the replies. I see my pdoc in another week, so I'll run it by him. I could use to lose a lot of this weight, I've gained 60 pounds since I started the Zyprexa. I'll just try to keep my head up and get through it. Thanks again!

I take geodon. Been taking it for 3 years now. I started off on 40mg twice a day and have decreased to 20mg twice a day. Have been at the 20mg twice a day for 2 years now.. Over the last 3 years I have gained 40lbs. It does make me very tired so I take both doses at night so that I can function at work. 4 weeks ago I wanted to decrease my dosage to 20mg once a day hoping to lose some weight with my doctors approval and help of course. I had withdrawl; symptoms that were not very pleasant. Headaches, nausea, total loss of appetite, could not sleep and anxiety attacks that were hitting me all day on and off. The doc called me in some Nuerontin but that was too sedating for me. After a long 3 weeks of withdrawl the doc and I decided for me to go back up to 20mg twice a day. In that 3 weeks of withdrawl I did manage to lose 11 pounds. Weirdly as I upped the dosage this time it is not the same as before. My appetite is down which is a good thing. I used to get up in the middle of the night to eat. Not this time. That's just my experience with Geodon. Every medication will work different on different people. I understand for most people who gained weight on other Antiphychotics have succesfully lost weight on Geodon. But it made me gain weight.

I was on Geodon for about 7 months and I loved it. At first it was very sedating, but I actually really liked that effect because it regulated my sleeping schedule. Geodon really helped with the voices and paranoia. I had to stop taking it because towards the end I started getting restlessness and twitching in my right leg, so my pdoc switched me to Zyprexa, which I hated and caused me to gain quite a bit of weight. If I could I would go back on Geodon. I wish the best for you, good luck!!.
